Escapists Uncensored: First Look at BITTEN Coming in 2014

KArmstrong-BittenWith all the Outlander series news, I totally forgot about another fabulous series coming to television. Bitten, the first book in Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series, had been optioned for film in Canada and the first episode will be aired on SPACE in January 2014!  According to IMDB, there’s already 13 episodes that have been filmed, and now that SyFy has acquired the series as well, I’m hoping for more. Especially after seeing the teaser trailer (check it out below) that was posted by Blastr. It looks amazing, and fingers crossed, it looks like they’re keeping to the original story pretty close.

Now as is always the case when a novel is optioned/produced, I’m not expecting the show to be exactly like the book or series as a whole. It’s hard to transfer words to the screen and get the same sense; and if I’m being honest, I do hope they make some changes. I love Armstrong’s werewolves, but could we please keep the series focused on Elena and Clay. The witches, warlocks, demons, etc etc….I’m okay if they want to make appearances, but the wolves are why I love that series.

BittenBased on the New York Times best-selling Women of the Otherworld novels by Kelley Armstrong, Bitten is an emotionally charged supernatural thriller starring Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, Ted) as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena has abandoned her Pack and taken refuge in a new city. There, she works as a photographer and hides her werewolf existence from her new boyfriend. When bodies start turning up in her Pack’s backyard, Elena finds herself back at Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain. Torn between two worlds and two loves, she quickly realizes that – when push comes to shove – she’ll stop at nothing to defend her Pack.

The series also stars Greg Bryk (A History of Violence, Rookie Blue) as werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers, Greyston Holt (Alcatraz, Durham County) as Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend Clayton Danvers, and Paul Greene (The Client List, Wicked Wicked Games) as Elena’s current beau, Philip McAdams.

So 13 episodes has been filmed, and after looking at the cast listing, I’ve noticed something interesting. For one, Karl Marsten, played by Pascal Langdale, will be in 6 of the episodes – yea! He’s one I’m hoping will be a regular, but the interesting part is that Elena’s very human boyfriend, Philip (Paul Greene), is in all 13 of the episodes. Correct me if I’m wrong, but he wasn’t in that much of the book, was he? Maybe I’m not remembering it very well, but I thought we saw the last of him within the first half of the book, but  I can actually see how his presence would be kind of fun to. Talk about a little sexual tension, and if it hasn’t clicked yet, it looks like the series is going to keep the love triangle going throughout the entire first season. It’ll be interesting to see, that’s for sure.

There’s still no mention of when Bitten will premier, but SyFy already has a page for the show on their website, so I’m hoping it’ll be pretty close to the SPACE debut in January. Here’s the first teaser trailer for the series, what do you think? What are you hoping they’ll keep (aka not change)? Is there something you want to see changed?
