Weekly Geeks v9.29: Song-Book Match

I know it’s been awhile since I did a Weekly Geeks post, but I’m game for this one.  Here are the details:

So, my fellow Weekly Geeks, your challenge this week is to come up with at least one song-book match. It could remind you of a theme from the book, a specific part of the plot, or even one of the characters (a sort of theme song, if you will). Be sure to include samples of the lyrics and the reason why that song reminds you of that book. If you can provide a link to a recording of the song so that other geeks can hear it that would be great as well.

So yeah, there was a song that really stuck in my head for a particular book.  In fact, it was a year ago this month that I found this gem, so I’m going to share it again.

The song is Love Me Dead by Ludo and it so reminded me of Edward and Bella’s relationship from the Twilight Saga.  It’s not an exact rendering of their relationship, but I can see some similarities.

What about everyone else, do Love Me Dead by Ludo you not think of Edward and Bella or is there another couple this would work for?

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Jackie, I was thinking this was more ideal for Catherine and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, since to me, their relationship is more fractured and stormy – which is the point of the song, which I loved the minute I heard it several months ago. Bella’s and Edward’s relationship is only rocky because of Edward’s inner torture. Once he figures out what he truly wants, and when he decides to stop making sacrifices on Bella’s behalf, their relationship evolves into a normal one. Whereas Catherine’s and Heathcliff’s is stormy and passionate, where each love and hate each other equally. In my opinion, that’s just what the song is evoking.

  2. I love that song! And the video is extremely entertaining. :D

I think that ‘Freak like me’ by the Sugababes fits Cat in Halfway to the Grave. She feels like and absoloute freak/outcast to begin with and it’s only later she begins to come into her own and accept herself.

It could just be that the video has vampires though :D

  3. Melissa, is that a TLC cover? It really sounds like something off of their Crazy Sexy Cool cd from 1994. Man, I haven’t listened to that CD in a long time. Kind of reminds me of Red Light Special.

  4. I don’t think I’ll be reading the Twilight series. However, that said I love so far what both you and Michelle over at Master Musings by Michelle have done with this week’s theme in connection with Twilight. Excellent musical choices.
