I have some more cover goodness going on and this one hasn’t been posted yet. At least not at LE. Jacquelyn Frank has the cover up for the first novel in her new Shadowdwellers series. The first novel, which is Ecstasy, will be out January 2009 and it’s already available for pre-order at Amazon. This is actually a spinoff from her Nightwalkers series and we’ve already been introduced to a couple of Shadowdwellers in Damien. After that one brief taste of them, I can’t wait to read more next year.

In last months Escapist Newsletter, I mentioned that the sixth Kitty Norville novel was going to be called Kitty Raises Hell; well, now here is the cover. It still doesn’t come out until April 2009 and there isn’t anything else up about it yet, but we have this to drool over. On October 22nd, Carrie Vaugh, Lynda Hilburn, and Esri Rose will be doing a reading and signing of their books at the Boulder Bookstore in Colorado. So if you’re nearby (and I have a friend who is), you might want to check it out.
If you’ve missed it, there was a huge announcement at DragonCon this year. Laurell K Hamilton revealed that they are working with a writer, producer, and director for an Anita Blake Vampire Hunter movie and a possible television series involving all 16 books. There really isn’t anything else she could tell us, but you can be sure I’ll be watching her site for any more news. LKH has also annoucned the next Anita Blake title. It’s going to be called Skin Trade and that’s pretty much everything I know about it so far. I have heard rumors that there is going to be more crime, mystery, and sex, but again, just rumors.
New Excerpts:
- Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh
- Angels’ Blood by Nalini Singh
- Up in Smoke by Katie MacAlister
- Living with the Dead by Kelley Armstrong – Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3
- Swallowing Darkness by LK Hamilton
- Dark Magic by Cheyenne McCray
There is some Katie MacAlister news. She’s announced the title for the third Silver Dragon’s novel. It is going to be Me and My Shadow. At the moment, it’s not really working for me, but that might change. Since she is starting to work on it, Katie is starting up her Write Along With Katie (WAWK) session over at her forum. Rules and information can be found on the WAWK post in her message forum.
Guess what else I saw at Amazon…Kelley Armstrong’s Men of the Otherworld compilation which is going to have a bunch of stories in it as well as a new one with Jeremy. The novel is set to release January 27, 2009.

Check out the cover for One Silent Night (Stryker’s story) by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Is it not pretty? Here’s the excerpt for it. Kenyon has also added the next two novels in the Dark-Hunter series to her website. The next novel, Dream Warrior, appears to be scheduled for a February 2009 release and it’s another Dream-Hunter novel. The next one, Bad Moon Rising, will be out in August 2009 and will be Fang and Aimee’s story.
There’s Diana Gabaldon news! She’s posted some new excerpts for the Outlander comics and for An Echo in the Bone. There are also three new excerpts for stories appearing in upcoming anthologies: One from the Dragons anthology; one from Phoenix Noir titled Dirty Scottsdale; and one from The Lord John series, The Custom of the Army, which will be published in the Warriors anthology.
Some great Jeaniene Frost news. She has been contracted for two more Night Huntress novels, which means there’ll be at least 7/8 books total. We can only hope that there’ll be more after that. Plus, she has been contracted to write two more novels, set in the same world as the Night Huntress series, but involving different characters, ones we’ve seen before perhaps? Jeaniene has also posted the first chapter for At Grave’s End. So if you haven’t checked it out yet, then you better get moving.
Kelley Armstrong is going to be at Pentacon on November 7th through the 9th where she will be the guest of honor. She is also making numerous appearances out and about in Ontario over the next couple of months, but I don’t see her crossing the border much. But she does make it to Detroit in January for the Cryptic Confusion Convention (Huh?), which I will definitely be finding out more details on, so stay tuned.
Oh, Patricia Briggs has also announced the title for the second Alpha & Omega novel. It’s going to be Hunting Ground. That’s all there is for the novell, she’s just now starting it, but it’s enough of a tease, right? Briggs has also turned in the manuscript for Bone Crossed, so hopefully we’ll get an excerpt for it soon.
Colleen Gleason is going to be in the Pontiac, MI area on Oct 23rd.
Julia Quinn is going on a whirlwind of a tour for Mr. Cavendish, I Presume. You can see her schedule here.
We are going to start off with some new shininess…namely the cover for Ilona Andrews Magic Strikes. Now isn’t this shiny?

There is some news for Mercy Thompson and comic fans. The Dabel Brothers Publishing have premiered the first eleven pages of Mercy Thompson: Homecoming. The artist is Francis Tsai and the artwork looks amazing. I know I already have my order in for this comic, so if anyone is looking for a great place to get it, make sure you check out Lightspeed Hobbies.
I just wanted to say that this is an incredibly useful round-up – thank you!
This is an astoundingly helpful site. I’m very impressed. I’d like to add that my own humorous futuristic romance Knight’s Fork was released on September 30th, so is possibly another October release (unless it was mentioned as a September release).
I’d love a link, too!
Thank you so much for posting all the release dates for the month. I’ve had trouble finding out release dates in the past, but now I know where to look.
WOW! Great post!!! I love when all the new releases are listed like that and all those interviews and everything too!! AWESOME!! Thanks!!
Wow great resource. Love the Excerpts and Interviews feature. A tremendous amount of work must go into this. Kudos.
I just pre-ordered Wolfsbane and Mistletoe (and my Sleeping Beauty DVD)! There are quite a few more that I want though :(
Thank you for all the info and the mention!
