Black Friday: Alternative Christmas Gifts by Lisa Kessler

Black Friday 2013Black Friday is here and we’re discussing the season with Lisa Kessler’s Gabe from Beg Me To Slay.

He’ll slay her demons, but it may cost her heart…

Four years ago Tegan Ashton was attacked. Determined never to be a victim again, she devotes her life to martial arts and self-defense. When her assailant returns to finish what he started, only one person can help her.

Gabe is a private investigator by day and demon slayer by night. After losing loved ones, he vows to defend people from a threat they don’t realize exists.

The relationship is supposed to be strictly business, but fighting demons together stirs up emotions they never expected. Turns out demon slaying is a breeze compared to facing their scarred pasts and even worse – hearts.

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away an ecopy of Moonlight and Hunter’s Moon, plus a gorgeous Welsh Dragon.

Alternative Christmas Gifts

LKessler-Beg Me to SlayHi everyone –

I love the holiday season, and I’m excited to be here with all of you!

Gabe, my hero from my upcoming paranormal romance, Beg Me To Slay, has some shopping to do, so let’s listen in…

The holidays are bright and full of cheer for most people, but until recently, it’s been a painful hole for me. After I lost my parents and then my fiancé to demon attacks, I started dodging the holidays as well as steady relationships. No tree, no gifts, no holiday tv specials. No amount of tinsel and mistletoe could fill the void inside of me.

But my life turned upside down when Tegan Ashton walked through the doors of my office to hire me to be her private investigator. I did my best to keep her out of my demon-infested world, but damn that woman is a force of nature. Plus she kicked my ass in her karate dojo. How could I resist?

My affection puts her square in the destructive path of demons, but I’ve got her back and although it’s taken me a while to get used to it, she’s got mine too.

This is my first year participating in the holiday rush again. All the lights, noise, screaming kids, and scents are a little overwhelming, but I’m not going to the mall. I’ve got a line on a perfect gift for Tegan.

At least I hope it’s perfect.

I’m a little nervous about the whole gift exchanging portion of the holidays. The last time I bought a Christmas gift for anyone it was for my mother and I was just out of high school. Laura was dead by what would have been our first Christmas together.

I jammed my hands deeper into my jacket. December wasn’t cold in California, but along the coast, the ocean winds were gusty and carried chilly moisture to give you a one two punch of winter weather San Diego style. Jogging across the street, I pulled open the red door and stepped inside. I found this little store hidden in Pacific Beach a few years back. The Dimension’s Den was a unique shop. The owner, Muriah La Deaux, kept up the “alternative books” front, but the real reason for his visit had nothing to do with a book.

“Hey Gabe.” She set down her rag on the coffee bar and came around to greet me. “I got your dagger. Gimme a sec to go get it.”

I waited in the main room of the store, scanning book titles. Spell grimoiries, tarot guides, and books on Native American mysticism lined the shelves, fine reading if that was what you were in to, but not why I frequented the Dimension’s Den. I kept coming back because when I needed a charmed weapon or a “lost” demonology book, Muriah could find it. The girl had a gift for locating relics and artifacts.

She came out with a dagger housed within a leather calf holster. Taking it from her, I drew the blade and held it up, inspecting the ancient Celtic words carved into the blade. “This is the Tuatha de Danann dagger?”

Muriah nodded. “May I?” She took the dagger from me and turned it over, resting the blade on her palm so I could see the intricate knots on the handle. “The knots of protection just like you described, right?”

I nodded with a satisfied smile. “Perfect.”

She put it in a plain brown paper bag for me and I headed back out into the wind, with a warm heart. Most women probably wouldn’t swoon over an enchanted demon killing dagger, but Tegan wasn’t “most women”, she’s my mine.

And together, we kick demon ass.

Thanks for having Gabe and I on the blog! You can catch Gabe and Tegan’s story in Beg Me To Slay which will be out on December 30th! And if you’re curious about Muriah and the Dimension’s Den, she’s the heroine in Night Child, the final book in my Night Series due out in 2014.
