Black Friday Contest: Curtsies & Conspiracies by Gail Carriger

Black Friday 2013What is a Black Friday without a few gifts and surprises? Gail Carriger wanted to be here, but due to deadlines (and we totally want more stories, right?), she was unable to participate. However, to celebrate the release of Curtsies and Conspiracies, she’s sent along this fabulous beauty instead: 2 copies of Curtsies and Conspiracies to giving away and I know you want it. *grin*

GCarriger-Curtsies and ConspiraciesDoes one need four fully grown foxgloves for decorating a dinner table for six guests? Or is it six foxgloves to kill four fully grown guests?

Sophronia’s first year at Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality has certainly been rousing! For one thing, finishing school is training her to be a spy–won’t Mumsy be surprised? Furthermore, Sophronia got mixed up in an intrigue over a stolen device and had a cheese pie thrown at her in a most horrid display of poor manners.

Now, as she sneaks around the dirigible school, eavesdropping on the teachers’ quarters and making clandestine climbs to the ship’s boiler room, she learns that there may be more to a field trip to London than is apparent at first. A conspiracy is afoot–one with dire implications for both supernaturals and humans. Sophronia must rely on her training to discover who is behind the dangerous plot-and survive the London Season with a full dance card.

Meet Gail Carriger!

New York Times Bestselling author Gail Carriger writes to cope with being raised in obscurity by an expatriate Brit and an incurable curmudgeon. She escaped small town life and inadvertently acquired several degrees in Higher Learning. Ms. Carriger then traveled the historic cities of Europe, subsisting entirely on biscuits secreted in her handbag. She resides in the Colonies, surrounded by fantastic shoes, where she insists on tea imported from London.

The Parasol Protectorate books are: Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless, and Timeless. Soulless won the ALA’s Alex Award and has been turned into a graphic novel. Her young adult Finishing School series begins with Etiquette & Espionage and follows the exploits of Sophronia, a young lady who soon discovers her dreaded lady’s seminary is a great deal more than anyone realizes. In the Parasol Protectorate Abroad series, beginning with Prudence, Rue and her crack (or possibly cracked) dirigible crew get into trouble around the Empire on behalf of queen, country, and tea.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I’m not sure if this USA, only or USA/Canada, but if Canada’s included then I’d give her a parasol with a grappling hook that shoots out of the tip and a fan that shoots darts.

  2. I’d give Sophronia a leather bound notebook so she can make notes of all the things she overhears while eavesdropping of the teachers, etc.

  3. I would give her a parasol filled with all kinds of gadgets, knife, poison and made of a material that stops bullets and knives. I love Ms. Carriger’s writing. She writes such fun and unique steampunk.
