I’m lacking a title today

Awhile ago, the cover art for Justine Larbalestier’s upcoming YA Liar was revealed and it caused a major up roar – which is should have. Well, the people at Bloomsbury listened to the mass outcry and a new cover has emerged. OCD, Vampires & Rants has the previous and new covers, but I want to share the new one.

I have a question for everyone.  I was recently contacted about what my advertising rates for Literary Escapism were and I’ve never been asked that question before.  So I’m wondering:

  1. Bloggers – how do you handle advertising requests?  Do you think there would be a conflict of interest?
  2. Readers – do you want to see advertisements here?  Do you think there would be a conflict of interest?

CE Murphy has tentatively titled her sixth Walkers Papers novel as Rattlesnake Dances.  Since she is still in the proposal stages, there isn’t word on when it’ll be release and by then we may have a new title.  But she’s working on it.

PC Cast has announced the title for the seventh House of Night novel, which will be Burned.  No mention of a release date though.

Caitlin Kittredge is working on a new YA novel tentatively titled The Witch’s Alphabet.  She’s on the second round of edits and she’s giving us a little more information on the series.

Melissa Marr has the official release date for Radiant Shadows, which will be April 20, 2010.  The paperback edition of Fragile Eternity will be out a month prior to that.  Keep your eyes open too; Melissa says she has the cover for Radiant Shadows, but there are still a few tweaks left to iron out.  So we should be seeing something shiny sooner rather than later.

Can’t wait to read The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong, the third Darkest Powers novel?  Armstrong has already posted the first three chapters even though the novel doesn’t come out until March 2010.

  • Free Book Friday is giving away 3 autographed copies of either The Summoning or The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong (winners choice).  Contest ends August 14th.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. In my opinion, unless you are getting millions of hits daily, it’s unlikely that you can make any sort of significant money from advertising. With that in mind combined with the fact that I never set out to make money from my blog in the first place, I don’t do ads (other than affiliate links).

Most the requests I get for advertising rates seem to be a scam anyway – they don’t say anything about what they are advertising and they don’t say anything about their company. This is either a scam or complete incompetence. I don’t want do business with either.

And as a reader, I find ads annoying.

  2. I guess it all depends who is offering advertising and what the ad will look like. You could always ask certain sites or blogs that have advertising and what their rates are.

  3. I haven’t had that experience. :) But hey, you already have an amazon thingie over there… I guess it depends on the advertiser and if they want to have say over your content. I think I’d work on developing a policy statement before accepting ads, just to make sure things are spelled out.

  4. If you have the chance to make a little extra cash doing something you’re passionate about, and it doesn’t interfere with your work or it’s integrity, then why not go for it?

As a reader (I’m not a blogger) I have no problem with it. (if it’s not offensive, that is, but I doubt you’d allow anything like that on your site anyway) Actually, you know what? I trust your judgement, the books you rec always seem to be good anyway. ;)
