I was sent a copy of Dark Time, the first novel in the Mortal Path series by Dakota Banks and I really can’t say much about it.
What if a woman sold her soul to a demon and 300 years later wanted it back?
In the 17th century, a woman is ripped from her husband’s arms, thrown in jail, and then set afire as a witch. Saved from the flames by an ancient Sumerian demon, she becomes the Black Ghost, his Ageless assassin gifted with otherworldly skills and superbly trained in martial arts.
Centuries pass before Maliha Crayne finds a way out of the life she hates.
If she saves as many lives as she’s taken, she’ll break the demon’s hold on her.
If she fails, she will suffer the demon’s torment … forever.
I made it through the first 50 or so pages and then I was distracted by another book. Generally, when that happens, either one or two things will occur – I’ll end up going back to it eventually or I never will. I’m not a fan of did not finishes, so I generally like to think of those as go back laters. Unfortunately, I’ve been seeing a few reviews around the blogosphere and most of them are saying the first part of the book is the best; however, that’s the part that bored me. Let’s just say I’m not seeing a lot of hope for Dark Time right now, not for me at least.
Seriously though, I’m not a fan of labeling novels “DNFs”, but I’ll be honest, I doubt I’ll go back to this novel anytime soon. However, just because I didn’t find it to my likely, doesn’t mean someone else won’t think it rocks. So take a look at the blurb and go hit the library. Then come back here and tell me why I need to pick it up again.
And as always, you should never base your opinion on me alone, so here’s a few random reviews from the blogosphere.

Uh-oh….just picked this one up today as it looked so interesting. Will be a week or two before I can get to it, but hopefully it will grab me and I can come back here to discuss. Only have had a few DNFs in my reading history, but you’re right in that you rarely go back to them.
Sounds like it might make a better TV show.
Hmm. Not a bad premise, but it’s all in what you do with it…
This sounds like something I wouldn’t enjoy – when are these authors gonna learn, it’s all about SIMPLICITY.
You know what I think about Dark Time. Strong beginning, ho hum middle and main character who has too many personalities to keep track of.
LOL and I liked it. Yes some of the flashbacks hurt the pacing a little but hey I liked her. Wonder if its a gender thing for this one :)
I admit I have a few DNF’s in my history. One being ‘Wuthering Heights’, it just confused the hell out of me so I put it down. I tried again later, but I couldn’t seem to get into it at all.
