Ann Aguirre is giving us the first chapter for the third Sirantha Jax novel, Doublebind. She just handed it in to her editor, so I don’t believe we have a release date yet. Her second Jax novel, Wanderlust, was just released a week ago and I’m still eagerly awaiting mine to arrive in the mail.

Interviews:

  • Reuters UK has an interview with John Ajvide Lindqvists, author of Let the Right One In.
  • Nalini Singh is talking about her Psy-Changeling men as well as a few others at Desert Island Keepers – a side note…everything that I could possible want to know after reading Hostage to Pleasure is getting answered here, so it’s worth a visit.
  • The Book Smugglers are talking with Melissa Marr, author of Wicked Lovely and Inked. I just happened to have my hands on a copy of Wicked Lovely, so you’ll see a review of that soon.

Today’s artist is Nicole Cardiff, who can also be found on the FantasyGallery. The piece featured is called Jadis.

Voting is now active for the Book Blogger Appreciation Week. There are some great sites up for nominations, and I’ve already cast my vote, so head on over there and make your voice heard.

The Columbus Dispatch has a good article on the new HBO show, True Blood. Ms. Willow seems to have gotten in on a few of the episodes because while she says the show may seem like it’s starting off slow, it definitely picks up speed as the story arc/episodes progress. Here’s a snippet from the article:

An important ingredient seems to be missing. The series, based on the books by Charlaine Harris, comes from Alan Ball, who created the marvelous HBO drama Six Feet Under. True Blood has little of that series’ wit or saltiness — which might have been helpful when dealing with vampires, a mind reader and synthetic blood.

Paquin is engaging as a young woman with little life experience but plenty of curiosity. Moyer is harder to figure out. His portrayal lacks the charisma that would have helped sell the core relationship.

But Louisiana is known for not rushing anything, and, especially with the talented Ball at the helm, True Blood should quickly develop more bite.

I’ve never seen the 1922 film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, but after reading Screen Savor’s review, I’m really tempted to try and locate it. Added in the fact that Stoker’s widow was still alive when it was filmed and later sued them for copyright infringement…well you know how it is when you’re told not to do something.

Waiting for Fairies posted their Top 10 Fantasy Series to Watch and I’m kind of surprised by a couple that are on the list. The #1 spot goes to Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series, but that series already has five novels out. Plus, Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files is also on that list and isn’t the 10th book due out soon? When I think of “series to watch articles”, I kind of want something new, something that is just starting and doesn’t already have a huge fan base. Maybe that’s just me though.

I’m really not sure who to give credit to for this, but there is a really interesting discussion going on relating to the rebirth of the fantasy genre within the US. If the article is correct, than I didn’t realize that Fantasy wasn’t really published between the 1940s and 1960s/70s.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. You’re right. Although Harrison’s series has 6 books out and Butcher’s has 10 already (#11 is due in April, I believe). I guess I cheated a bit; they’re both pretty established stories by now. But the list is for series that aren’t finished, so they do fit. They’re my favorites; what can I say? I couldn’t help myself. Thanks for reading!
