The Vampire Queen’s Servant by Joey W. Hill (Vampire Queen #1)

His blood. His soul. His body. Hers for the asking…

Lady Elyssa Yamato Amaterasu Wentworth is a centuries-old vampire who’s been given a new servant – Jacob, a total alpha male unaccustomed to submitting to any woman’s wishes. What really binds Jacob to her are not her sensual midnight hungers, but something far more provocative. It stirs her blood, renews her life and awakens her soul like only true love can. The passion between Lyssa and Jacob yields something else unexpected – a shared history that reaches back through the centuries and is fated to challenge their destiny like nothing ever will again

The Real Wizard of Oz by Rebecca Loncraine

The Real Wizard of Oz is an imaginatively written work that stretches the genre of biography and enriches our understanding of modern fairytales. L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its thirteen sequels, lived during eventful times in American history– from 1856 to 1919– that influenced nearly every aspect of his writing, from the Civil War to Hollywood, which was emerging as a modern Emerald City full of broken dreams and humbug wizards, to the gulf between America’s prairie heartland, with its wild tornadoes, and its cities teeming with “Tin Man” factory workers. This is a colorful portrait of one man’s vivid and eccentric imagination and the world that shaped it. Baum’s famous fairytale is filled with the pain of the economic uncertainties of the Gilded Age and with a yearning for real change, ideas which many contemporary Americans will recognize. The Wizard of Oz continues to fascinate and influence us because it explores universal themes of longing for a better world, homesickness and finding inner strength amid the storms.

Beyond the Pale by Savannah Russe (Darkwing Chronicles #1)

The government knows that Daphne Urban is a vampire, and they have an ultimatum: spy for them, or be killed. The choice is easy. She can speak 13 languages, has a genius IQ, and has escaped detection for nearly five hundred years-making her perfect for Team Darkwing. Her first mission is to get close to Bonaventure, a shady arms dealer with an unexpected gift for seduction. But when Darius, a darkly sexy vampire slayer, begins chasing her, Darius is torn between desire and duty. For his lithe, young prey is also his ultimate temptation.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I really enjoy Savannah Russe’s Darkwing chronicles. I’m hoping for another installment soon. Have you read any of her novels?

  2. Mishel – I haven’t read any of her series yet. I will soon.

Doug – That’s the surprise….stupid calendar lied to me. :) That’s what I get for quickly glancing at the calendar. I could’ve sworn it said the 22nd was a Sunday. Oh well. It’s a day early today.

  3. I have a copy of Beyond the Pale by Savannah Russe…I just haven’t read it yet. I think I need to start reading more than playing too many books in my house! (My whole TBR stack probably adds up to about 600 books..eek)

  4. I’ve read Beyond the Pale, it was a good first book in a series and I did enjoy it. Which makes me wonder why I haven’t read the rest of the series yet. :)
