Heather McCollumnI am excited to welcome Heather McCollum, who’s celebrating the release of Tangled Hearts.

Pandora Wyatt is the most complicated woman alive. Raised by a pirate captain, Dory risks exposure of her magic to free the only father she’s ever known from the Tower of London. But when she’s tied to a smoldering witch’s pyre, her powers aren’t enough to save her.

Ewan Brody is on a mission to deliver a traitor’s corpse to King Henry VIII when he rescues a beautiful spitfire from a horrific fate. Saving the lass’s life leads him on an adventure he never intended. Thrust together in the roles of husband and wife, they dodge royal intrigue, dark twists, and secrets as they attempt to find the true traitor at the Tudor court.

Magic and adventure spark, igniting a fire between Ewan and Dory, consuming them and tangling their hearts together forever. But to reach forever, they first need to survive the day.

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away a $25 Amazon Gift Card and 3 ecopies of Tangled Hearts.

HMcCollumn-Tangled HeartsThanks so much for having me here today at Literary Escapism to celebrate the release of Tangled Hearts, my 16th century romp through Henry VIII’s court. Tangled Hearts combines the opulence and court intrigue of The Tudors and the raw adventure and humorous essence of the Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s a mix of magic, traitorous mayhem and fun! Toss in a shadowy villain, a sexy Highlander, and a sassy witch and you have an adventure that will keep you turning the page with occasional giggles and “what will they do next” head shakes.

Dory is a witch, pirate, heiress on an impossible mission. Ewan is simply fulfilling a promise with a goal of returning to a familiarly comfortable life in the Highlands. When their adventures collide and they must work together to survive Henry VIII’s court, their worlds and then their hearts become irreparably tangled together.

I begin a new project usually with an opening scene in my mind, one that won’t let me rest until I get it out on paper. With Tangled Hearts I clearly saw a rescue by a sexy, powerful Highlander, Ewan from my first book in the series, Captured Heart. What Ewan isn’t counting on though is a lass who is less than thankful for being flung across his horse and carried away when she felt capable of getting out of the situation herself. The meeting scene clearly shows the difference between these two strong characters which of course leads to conflict despite their attraction. Their contrasting personalities, the danger of a secret traitor and the tumultuous charisma of Henry VIII, weave the reader one tantalizing tangle.

This past summer, as I was adding the finishing touches to Tangled Hearts, I was able to tour Hampton Court and the Tower of London in England, the setting for the book. I ran my palms along the walls of the galleries, walked the floors, stood in awe at the sight of Anne Boleyn’s beheading, and breathed in the very air that my characters (both real and created) inhaled. I’ve always been fascinated with the larger than life Henry Tudor. Stepping along the halls where he strode colored in so many sensory details for me as a writer, which I in turn added to my book.

The finished result makes me smile. Dory became more complicated than I could have imagined at the start. Ewan dealt with a past I knew nothing about at the beginning. The two grew and really fell in love while I simply watched and recorded. I love it when characters become real, taking on bits and pieces of people I’ve met and fanciful details from my imagination. With the regal backdrop of Tudor England, these characters grew into legends.

Have you fallen in love with characters who seem so real that you could picture them walking down a city street? What hero or heroine would you love to meet?

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Thanks for guest posting Heather!!! I absolutely love Ewan and with Dory they make such a great and strong couple. I have too many couples I can see walk hand in hand on the street even despite the challenges in their relationships and personal struggles. I would love to meet every one of my favorite heroes and heroines, from the rakehell Cynster gentlemen by Stephanie Laurens and Jay Crownover’s bad ass tattooed hunks in her Marked Men series to Madeline Hunter’s fallen ladies in her Rarest Bloom series and Lori Wilde’s strong independent heroines in Texas. They’re all fantastic!
