Your Late Night News….

Let’s start off with some good news…I found out today that I was nominated not for one BBAW, but three of them!  Literary Escapism is in the running for Best Reviews, Best Speculative Fiction and Best Blog Name.  You really like me!  Hehe. The BBAW shortlist will be posted on September 7th and voting will begin then as well.

Check out the cover Gena Showalter has for her book, Into the Dark.  This is actually a compilation of her ebooks The Amazon’s Curse (the Amazon series) and two Lords of the Underworld novellas – The Darkest Fire and The Darkest Prison.  We’ll also be getting a new Lords of the Underworld novella as well.  Into the Dark comes out May 2010.

Now I am liking the cover for Alyson Noel’s Shadowland.  Isn’t this a snazzy cover?  I’m really liking the colors on the necklace against the red.  I have to thank Enchanted by Books for catching this one.  It’s the third in Noel’s Immortal series and will be released November 24, 2009.

Interviews:

Tez Says is reporting that the next Anita Blake novel by Laurell K Hamilton is going to be titled Flirt.  Tez is usually pretty good about finding tibits out, but I’m not sure about this one.  Flirt just seems so different from the rest of the series titles.  But Tez does say it’s to be released February 2, 2010.

Perez Hilton has been having a chat with Boo Boo Stewart, that actor casted as Seth Clearwater, and it was mentioned that there will be three more movies after New Moon is released.  I guess there is talks about separating Breaking Dawn into two movies.  I’m not sure how I feel about that.  I can see why they would separate it and where; but why not do just one movie?

There is a new blog popping up that you should take a look at.  Fire and Ice will feature Yasine Galenorn, Anya Bast and Alyssa Day.

SciFiGuy has the cover for Laura Anne Gilman’s Hard Magic, which is due out sometime in the Spring 2010.  This will be the first book in Gilman’s new Paranormal Scene Investigation series.  The cover looks interesting and kind of gives me a CSI feel after hearing the series title.  The second novel already has a title, Pack of Lies, and will be out Spring 2011.

SciFiGuy also has the cover for the Immortal anthology edited by PC Cast.  There seems to be a lot of great authors included: Richelle Mead, Rachel Caine, Kristin Cast, Claudia Gray, Nancy Holder, Tanith Lee and Cynthia Leitich Smith.  SciFiGuy says it’ll be out in October.

Bookworms Carnival people.  You know you want to do one. Teddy at So Many Precious Books, So Little Time! is hosting the next one with a Historical Fiction stop. Narineh at The Novel World is all over the Banned Books in September and Natasha at Maw Books will have reviews for books with an African theme to them.  Check out the upcoming editions page for submission guidelines.

Marta Acosta announced over at Vamprie Wire that the fourth Casa Dracula novel will be released October 2010.  She hasn’t said what the title is, but we’ll get more Milagro soon.

Richelle Mead’s Blood Promise is due out on Tuesday, which means she’ll be heading out on tour soon. She’s making a stop in Detroit (yea!) on the 31st, which I will be at, but if you want to see if she’ll be in your area, check out her tour schedule.

Before we get to the contests, check out what Rachel Caine found….Killer Unicorns!  Rampant by Diana Peterfreund will be available from Harper Teen August 25th – next week.

Forget everything you ever knew about unicorns…

The sparkly, innocent creatures of lore are a myth. Real unicorns are venomous, man-eating monsters with huge fangs and razor-sharp horns. And they can only be killed by virgin descendants of Alexander the Great.

Fortunately, unicorns have been extinct for a hundred and fifty years.

Or not.

Astrid Llewelyn has always scoffed at her eccentric mother’s stories about killer unicorns. But when one of the monsters attacks her boyfriend in the woods – thereby ruining any chance of him taking her to prom – Astrid learns that unicorns are real and dangerous, and she has a family legacy to uphold. Her mother packs her off to Rome to train as a unicorn hunter at the ancient cloisters the hunters have used for centuries.

However, at the cloisters, all is not what is seems. Outside, the unicorns wait to attack. And within, Astrid faces other, unexpected threats: from crumbling, bone-covered walls that vibrate with a terrible power to the hidden agendas of her fellow hunters to – perhaps most dangerously of all – her growing attraction to a handsome art student… and a relationship that could jeopardize everything.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
