Slightly Spellbound by Kimberly Frost

KFrost--Slightly Spellbound

KFrost--Slightly SpellboundOh where have I been for the past few books in this series? I thoroughly enjoyed Slightly Spellbound by Kimberly Frost and cannot wait to read more in this series (and am soooo unhappy that my local library doesn’t carry them so I can go back and read the first 3!!). If you’re a fan of the hybrid of UF and PNR, my guess is you’ll enjoy Slightly Spellbound as well.

With two kinds of magick at odds inside her and two gorgeous men vying for her attention, Tammy Jo Trask is used to being pulled in opposite directions. But in the latest Southern Witch novel she’ll have to make some serious decisions—like how she intends to stay alive.

Tammy Jo’s romance with the wizard Bryn Lyons is on hold while her ex-husband is in town trying to remind her of the good old days. Choosing between them isn’t easy, and it doesn’t help that a skeletal creature is spying on her, a faery knight is hunting her, and she just made friends with Evangeline Rhodes—a rich witch who thinks her own family is trying to kill her.

When Evangeline disappears under suspicious circumstances, Tammy Jo is determined to find out what happened. As she uncovers a secret more dangerous—and personal—than she could have imagined, she also discovers that, in both love and magic, you can’t stay neutral forever.

I very much enjoyed Kimberly Frost’s writing style. I felt it to be very well paced (meaning I wasn’t bored) and easy to follow. Also, even though Slighty Spellbound is apparently the 4th novel of a series, I never really felt lost. There are some allusions to prior events but nothing that I felt super spoiler-y or left me feeling so confused and out of touch that I was lost. There was usually enough information for me to get a simple understanding of things that happened previously, without detracting from the main plot in Slightly Spellbound, as well as piquing my interest and making me want to go read the prior novels. This kind of thing can be hard to do, especially this far into a series. Kudos to Ms. Frost!!

I also really liked Tammy Jo. She wasn’t whiny or lacking in self-confidence. She was witty and self-assured. She is still learning about some of her true heritages, as apparently she is a hybrid of fae and witch. Yeah, that can get pretty interesting at times–and not always in a good way ;). Her dialogue with the boys was always entertaining as well.   Also–if you’ve read this far already then you know there is a love triangle–there seems to be a resolution to said love triangle. Nope, not gonna tell you who and for me it didn’t really matter as I wasn’t vested in a team (yay for being late to the party LOL!).

Anywho, Slightly Spellbound was a fun, quick (even for a full length novel!) read and left me wanting more more more.  My only gripe, I wasn’t a fan of the cover art. I’ve seen that pose–AND not gonna lie, that I’m not overly fond of the whole mixed species and having glowing red hair thing–on another, different Frost series/novel.  But, I know the cover isn’t anything that the author really has control over….so I’ll let it slide (and I’m not gonna delve into what was written first, etc regarding character descrips…my guess is, hopefully, just a funny coincidence) .  And when does book 5 come out?!  I def recommend lovers of PNR and UF alike pick this one up, if you haven’t done so already.
