Look Who’s Going to RT: Jaye Wells

Jaye Wells

Jaye WellsCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m a USA Today bestselling author of urban fantasy and speculative crime fiction. In 2012, I won the RT Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Urban Fantasy for my novel Blue-Blooded Vamp. I like bourbon, creative profanity, and doing things that scare me so I can write about them in my books.

Can you introduce us to the world(s) that you have created?
I have three main worlds readers might be familiar with. First is my Prospero’s War series (Dirty MagicCursed Moon), which is a mix of crime fiction and urban fantasy where wizards sell illegal and addictive potions on the streets on fictional Babylon, Ohio. Second, is my Sabina Kane series (Red-Headed StepchildThe Mage in BlackGreen-Eyed DemonSilver-Tongued DevilBlue-Blooded Vamp), which is about a half-vampire, half-mage assassin. My third world is Meridian Six, which is a post-apocalyptic story in the vein of Hunger Games and Allegiant, where vampires have subjugated the human race into blood camps.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This will be my fifth RT, I think. The best advice I can give is to be open to meeting new people. The best thing about RT is it brings thousands of readers together to celebrate books. In other words, it’s a week hanging out with potential friends.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to or are planning on attending?
I’m on a few panels, but the one I’m most looking forward to is the one on Southern Urban Fantasy. New Orleans is my favorite city, and I’m excited to talk about hat a great muse it has been for my writing.

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to or experiencing while in New Orleans?
As I mentioned, it’s my favorite city to visit. I try to go at least once a year. There’s always something new to discover, but I always look forward to spending some time wandering the Garden District and Magazine Street.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
If you want to find me, the safest bet is to look in the bar. One of my favorite things about the con is being able to sit down with old and new friends over a drink to catch up and dish about books. Also, this year, several authors and I are hosting a scavenger hunt of sorts. If you collect special New Orleans-themed buttons we’re handing out, you might win a Kindle. So definitely come say hi!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
