Look Who’s Going To RT: Carrie Vaughn

Carrie VaughnCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m Carrie Vaughn, author of the Kitty Norville series (Kitty and the Midnight Hour), about a werewolf who hosts a talk radio show for the supernaturally disadvantaged. I’ve written other books as well: contemporary fantasy, YA, and the superhero novels After the Golden Age and Dreams of the Golden Age. And a bunch of short stories. I live in Colorado and have too many hobbies.

Can you introduce us to the world(s) that you have created?
My most recent novel is Dreams of the Golden Age, which is a sequel to my first superhero novel, which tells the story of Celia West, the daughter of the city’s greatest superheroes who became an accountant and yet somehow saves the city anyway. The books are about family and living up to expectations, and how a superhero world may be more complicated than we thought.

The world I’m best known for is the Kitty Norville urban fantasy series (Kitty and the Midnight Hour), about a werewolf named Kitty and her supernatural shenanigans. That series is twelve books so far and going strong. The next book in that setting is going to be Low Midnight (Dec 30, 2014), and it stars Cormac, arguably the most popular character besides Kitty herself.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my first time. I’m the one looking for advice! I need help! This convention is so huge and intimidating!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to or are planning on attending?
I have a couple of panels/events planned: I’ll be on a panel about researching urban fantasy novels, and at the Shifter v. Vampires event. I’ll also be at the Saturday autographing/book fair. I think that’s my whole schedule, barring any changes!

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to or experiencing while in New Orleans?
That’s a big reason I decided to attend RT this year — I spent a couple of days in New Orleans a couple of years ago, and I really wanted to go back and see more. I plan on eating as much as I can, and getting the big behind-the-scenes tour from a local friend of mine.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I’m blond, with glasses and usually a dazed expression! I might be in the bar…

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
