Look Who’s Going to RT: Mark Henry

Mark Henry

Mark HenryCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
My name is Mark Henry, though some people know me as my young adult pseudonym Daniel Marks (VELVETEEN). I started my writing career in urban fantasy with the Amanda Feral zombie comedy series (HAPPY HOUR OF THE DAMNED) and somehow ended up in paranormal romance with the recent release of PARTS & WRECK. I’m pretty much all over the place in terms of genre and bookstore shelves, but what’s pretty standard across all my work is dark comedy—you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll pee your pants. That kind of thing.

I can be found at: Website | Daniel Marks | Facebook | Twitter | GoodReads | YouTube | Amazon

Can you introduce us to the world(s) that you have created?
I’m excited to be venturing back into my over-the-top zombie world with a new series of novellas about Amanda Feral and her horrible friends Wendy and Gil with BEACH BLANKET BLOODBATH. For those who haven’t read the first series, my zombies are snarky, alcoholic and brutally honest in a world that is so rife with societal apathy that they go virtually unnoticed to get into the most terribly funny messes a bunch of paranormal creatures could. Additionally, I’ll be launching my first paranormal erotica series with BALUSTRADE (May 5) about a troubled married couple that attends a strange therapeutic retreat with demonic origins.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I’ve been a veteran but have since grown my cherry back. My last RT was Columbus, so I think I’ve missed three. Normally, my advice would be simple—be flexible, open yourself to opportunities for casual interaction with authors rather than simply attending all the panels—but since this one is in New Orleans and the gutters run brown with bourbon, my advice is to HYDRATE and avoid the sugary drinks!!! Though, do try a Sazerac. Yum.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to or are planning on attending?
I am. On Wednesday (hopefully) I’ll be one of the many author hosts of Entangled Publishing’s CANDY AND SPOONS PARTY (2:30 – 4:45, 2nd Floor, Gallery 5). It’ll be close and I’ll probably run in for the tail end as my flight doesn’t get in until that afternoon. On Friday, I’ll be at the Mad Monster Party panel (10:00 – 11:00 AM, 3rd Floor, Salon D) talking about creatures, heroes and things that go bump in the night with the likes of Charlaine Harris, Karina Cooper, Marjorie Liu and Diana Rowland. Then, from 1:30 – 2:30, I’ll be speaking at Sex, Thugs and Rock ’n’ Roll about writing blood-pumping scenes with my buddies Jackie Kessler, Nicole Peeler, Diana Rowland, Jeanne Stein and Jaye Wells (4th Floor, Balcony K). Saturday, I’ll be at the GIGANTIC Book Fair hawking my wares! Come on down!!!

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to or experiencing while in New Orleans?
I love New Orleans and have been there a number of times, so I have my old haunts that I can’t wait to get back to and there’s always a new nook or cranny that I haven’t noticed before. I’d suggest venturing beyond the French Quarter, the Garden District is fantastic and there are pockets of weird just about everywhere.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I’ll be the one NOT eating puppies but consuming lots of bourbon amidst like-minded snarksters! Additionally. I’m part of the RT Scavenger Buttons of Awesome! Twelve authors, tons of buttons, find one of us and in addition to being marked by our animal essence, you’ll be entered to win a Kindle HDX. Authors participating: Lauren Dane, Delilah Dawson, Molly Harper, Liliana Hart, Kevin Hearne, Julie Kenner, Suzanne McLeod, Chloe Neil, Nicole Peeler, Jeanne Stein, & Jaye Wells.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
