Can you introduce us to the world(s) that you have created?
The Sentinels of New Orleans series (Royal StreetRiver RoadElysian Fields) is set in a post-Katrina New Orleans where the preternatural world is in disarray after the hurricane tore down the barriers between the modern world and the world Beyond, flooding the city with all kinds of nasties. The NOLA sentinel (think border guard) is Drusilla DJ, a wizard trying to navigate love and politics in a world growing more unstable by the hour.

The Penton Legacy series (RedemptionAbsolutionOmegaAllegiance) is set in a world where the vampires have dropped to the bottom of the food chain after a human pandemic vaccine makes the blood of vaccinated humans poison to them. Amid starvation and the threat of civil war, the battle lines are drawn between the vampires in power, who wish to restore their old way of life no matter what, to a rogue group of vampires and their willingly bonded human familiars, whose peaceful solution threatens everything the old guard wants to preserve.”

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This will be my second RT–relax and have fun! Everybody’s hanging out together at events. Strike up a conversation with a stranger, and she won’t be a stranger for long :-)

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to or are planning on attending?
I will be participating in two events:

  • A Southern urban fantasy discussion with Ilona Andrews, Diana Rowland, Jaye Wells and AJ Larrieu (Thursday 4-5 p.m.)
  • Montlake Magic, a scavenger hunt hosted by authors who write for Montlake Romance–with TONS of prizes!

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to or experiencing while in New Orleans?
I lived in New Orleans for a long, long time so it will be a homecoming for me. I hope to lure some RT attendees off the beaten path, get them out of the French Quarter, and show them the real city!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Honestly, I look like the most conservative person on earth, down to the dorky glasses. Looks can be VERY deceiving! But look for Marian the Librarian and scratch the surface to find the founding member of a group of friends who call ourselves the Sisterhood of the Traveling Snark.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
