It’s that time of year again. It’s time for Stainless Steel Droppings Readers Imbibing Peril Challenge! This is my second time doing this challenge (even though this is its fourth year) and I had a blast last year. So here are the basic rules of the challenge:
- R.I.P. IV runs from September 1st through October 31st, 2009.
- Choose one of more of the perils listed.
- Leave a comment announcing your intention to join and a link to the post on your site.
- Post links to your reviews on the R.I.P.ing Yarns Review Site.
- The most important thing: Have Fun!
There are four different levels of participation to chose from, but I am going to stick with the “Peril the First” group. During the time frame, I need to read four books that can be classified as Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Horror or Supernatural. Looking at my TBR shelf, this is totally doable. Plus it should help me get through my stack as well.
One of the things I love about this challenge is how flexible it is. Carl asks us to give a pool of books that we’ll use for the challenge, but we don’t have to stick to it. Basically, we’re giving a list to give other participants some ideas of what to read. Plus, if I want to read more than four books (which I probably will), I can.
So what books am I thinking of using for this challenge. Here they are:
- Soul Catcher by Leigh Bridger
- Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
- Private Midnight by Kris Saknussemm
- The Vampire Queen’s Servant by Joey W Hill
- Happy Hour of the Damned by Mark Henry
- First Blood – an anthology that will go well with Carl’s Short Stories idea
- Three Days Dead by Kelly Meding
- Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells
So that’s my reading list. Again, it’s more than four books, but this challenge is super flexible. I’m hoping to get through all of them for this challenge, but we’ll have to see. I’m averaging about 10 books a month right now (although August has been kind of slow) and between these and the PNRs sitting on my desk, I should be able to take a good chunk out of my TBR shelf.
I am so happy that you had enough fun with this last year to return for this year’s version of the R.I.P. Challenge. Thank you so very much!
I love being able to be really flexible with the parameters of the challenge, especially when the goal for me is that everyone who participates enjoys themselves.
You’re gonna LOVEEE Three Days to Dead and Red Headed Step Child!!! Haven’t read any of the others. But those two rock!
I could only wish i could read 10 books a month! wow, thats fantastic! I am a slow reader but still.. I do enjoy carl’s challenges!
I’m suddenly remembering how bad RIP is for my TBR…I haven’t heard of a single one of those books!! Now I have to go look them all up!
Good luck and have fun with the best challenge out there!! :)
this is a fabulous challenge and I can’t wait to join in.
I’ve actually not heard of a single book on your list…I need to go out and look them up!
