Guest Author: Reese Monroe

Reese MonroeI am excited to welcome author Reese Monroe, who’s celebrating the release of her new novel, Marked by Hades.

For 911 years, Gatekeeper companion Justin Bradford has denied the possibility of being mated to only one woman. He enjoys them all too much to settle down. So when he feels his mate’s Ahavah mark surface, his first instinct is to ignore it. But when he sees the leather-clad beauty in need of his help that’s easier said than done…
Yvonne wakes up naked on a cold park bench in a small town with no memory of who—or what—she is. All she knows is the gentle man who woke her was turned to dust when she touched him. And now the strange mark that appeared on her shoulder throbs in the presence of the raven-haired man now offering to help her…
As Justin and Yvonne navigate the mystery of her past, their bond grows, but the secrets they discover and the sacrifices that must be made could be enough to rip them apart for eternity.

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away a Marked by Fate prize pack including: a Marked By Fate necklace, $10 Starbucks gift card and a $10 iTunes gift card (if the winner is intl a $25 Amazon gift card will be substituted for the prize pack).

Music!

I love music! It helps me on so many levels. When I’m doing a super long run, it keeps me motivated. One time, I was running up a hill and it was funny that the song I Will Survive came on.

Because I didn’t feel like I would!

When it comes to writing, music plays the same role. It helps me get through action scenes. Love scenes. And it helps me with my characters! If a song resonates with my idea or image of my character, that’s when I usually latch onto it.

And when I say latch, I mean it. I’ll put a song on repeat for several hours straight while I’m writing sometimes.

My husband just chuckles.

For me, music is inspiring and encouraging. They can push me over the hump if I’m struggling with an idea, feeling down, or just need a pick me up. Here’s a good example: Fireflight – For Those Who Wait. Now this song wasn’t on the Marked by Hades playlist, but it’s one I listen to often, especially if I feel like giving up.

Here are a few songs from my Marked by Hades playlist. You can view the complete list on my Pinterest board!

What are some of your favorite songs? Do you have ones that bring you out of a funk like chocolate might? Or wait, maybe it’s just me with the whole chocolate addiction…

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I love music and have a “soundtrack” for almost every important, and some of the not so important, moments of my life. Fireflight – Unbreakable is one of my favorite songs! I also love Billy Joel – My Life, which has the same underlying message. Thanks for the great interview of one of my favorite authors! :D

P.S. The blue/greenish words by “What’s the answer?” and elsewhere are impossible to read on the dark green background unless you highlight them with your mouse. You may want to consider a color with higher contrast. :)

It’s been ages since I sat down to write but I do this too! :D

A couple of months back I was writing a character in a group writing project and my guy’s theme was “Ends of the Earth” by Lord Huron. Now I can’t hear that song without immediately reconnecting to that character. :)
