BBAW Contest #1: Tiger Eye by M. Liu

Today kicks off the first day of the Book Blogger Appreciation Week and my giveaway extravaganza. I have a total of 5 novels to give away this week, each one starting a great series, and we’re kicking things off with Marjorie Liu’s Tiger Eye.

All Dela wants is a vacation, but when she buys an odd little box from a Beijing market, she finds much more than that — she gets a man: a shape-shifter, a warrior, the last of his kind. Hari has been used and abused for millenia, but upon his release from the riddle box, he sees his new mistress is different. In Dela’s eyes he finds hidden power. If only he dares protect, where before he has savaged; love, where before he has known hate. For Dela, he will dare all.

Tiger Eye is the beginning of the Dirk & Steele series and revolves around a supernatural security agency. If you want my take on the novel, you can see my review here.

Now on with the details of the contest. If you want a chance to win this great novel, all you have to do is to answer this question: Detective Agencies and the supernatural have become a good setting for both novels and television. From Angel & Buffy to Harry Dresden, they are all over the place. What supernatural sleuths, in either novel or film format, was your favorite and why?

If you want more chances to win, post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.

For one more chance to win, sign up for my newsletter. Only new subscribers will be eligible.

I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer.  All entries must be in by 8:00 am EST time on Sept 16th.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. This book really does sound great! I don’t know if I can pick one but I really do love Buffy. I told my mom she should watch it but she thinks it sounds corny and stupid…little does she know! I will be blogging about it at http://thebookczar.blogspot.com. Will also sign up for your newsletter. Thanks for this awesome opportunity!

  2. I am a fan of Angel myself. Giving him an agency really allowed the show to have individual episodes not related to the overall plot arch.

    Thanks!
    Katie

  3. Harry Dresden for sure!!! I’m so addicted to his books already and I have only read the first 3 books. I’m trying to space them out so that I always have plenty of them to read but really by the time I catch up I’ll probably be able to reread them and won’t remember exactly what happens. LOL! Thanks for the contest and I’ll put it up on my blog for you. Hope you get some extra readers :)

  4. I love the Dirk & Steele series but I haven’t read this one! I really would love too though!

I’m also a fan of Angel and was sad when it ended.

  5. Oooh, I will always love Buffy but I’m developing quite a love for Harry Dresden, too….perhaps James Marsters (who was Spike on BtVS) reading the Harry Dresden audio books I listened to helped that along….who knows ;)

Tiger Eye sounds like a great book, too…and I love books in series

  6. the one i really like is mary janice davidson’s betsy, don’t know if the queen would fit in your category but she does figure things in every book so you can’t really keep her queen status against her!! she’s fun, she’s funny, she’s spunky and she’s got a big heart and kind, a great heroine!

  7. I’ve never read these before! My answer:

My favorite supernatural slueth was Mick on Moonlight but if I’m being honest, I liked his friend Josef a whole lot more.

  8. Ooh, I’m so excited that somebody mentioned “Forever Knight”—I used to love that show! I also really like the Vampiric Charms from Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series, and I’ve enjoyed the books I’ve read in the Dirk and Steele series so far as well!
