Look Who’s Going to RT: J. Kenner

Julie KennerCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
Sure! I’m Julie Kenner (also J. Kenner these days for my steamier side!). I live in Central Texas, am a recovering lawyer, and drink way too much coffee.

I’m married with two fabulous girls, both approaching the teen years (ack!) and two cats that are pretty much insane. I love red wine and dark chocolate and my job. (Believe me, I never got to work in my pajamas when I was a lawyer!)

Here’s my official bio: Julie Kenner (aka J. Kenner and J.K. Beck) is the New York Times, International, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of over forty novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

Praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations,” JK writes a range of stories including sensual and erotic romances, paranormal romance, chick lit suspense and paranormal mommy lit. Her foray into the latter, Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom by Julie Kenner, is in development as a feature film with 1492 Pictures.

Her Stark Trilogy of erotic romances reached as high as #2 on the New York Times list and is published in over twenty countries.

Can you introduce us to the world(s) that you have created?
I love living in the worlds I write, from the sensual, sexy, glamorous world of Damien Stark, to the edgy, fast-paced, semi-legal world of Most Wanted (those worlds overlap, actually!).

And, of course, I love the world of my superhero romances (Aphrodite’s KissAphrodite’s PassionAphrodite’s SecretAphrodite’s FlameAphrodite’s Embrace) where descendants of the Greek and Roman gods walk among us, and anything is possible. Or the pre-apocalyptic Boston that fills the pages of my Blood Lily Chronicles (TaintedTornTurned).

I’m especially fond of the world of Kate Connor, Demon Hunting Soccer Mom (Carpe DemonCalifornia DemonDemons Are ForeverDeja DemonThe Demon You Know…Demon Ex Machina), who lives in suburbia, but fights the evil that creeps into our world. (Hey, she drives a mini-van like I do!)

And the lawyer in me will always love the world of the Shadow Keepers (When Blood Calls, When Pleasure Rules, When Wicked Craves, When Passion Lies, When Darkness Hungers, When Temptation Burns), a dark and dangerous world wherein the creatures of the night–everything you thought was just story told to scare children–lives in the shadow of our world, with their own system of justice meted out as the vampires, shape shifters, and more see fit.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
Let’s say I’ve been re-virginated :)

I went to RT in Houston over a decade ago, and was very new and wide-eyed and had pins in my arm because of post-accident surgery (had a blast … even despite the tender, Frankenstein arm and the storm that blew in at the end!).

I also went to RT a few years later, but I was sick as a dog (which was very unfun!).

So I’m SO looking forward to this year, all the events, meeting fans and other authors, and generally having an amazing time in New Orleans!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to or are planning on attending?
I am! I’m excited about everything I’ll be doing at RT.

I’ll be participating on several panels and events. The Cajun Queen Casino breakfast on Thursday, the It’s All Fun & Games Until Someone Falls In Love panel, the Holding Out for a Hero panel, the Dark Nights Sparkler, two slots at Club RT, and of course the book signing!

I’m also participating in scavenger hunts with great prizes, the opening Mardi Gras party, and the pub crawl!

I’ve got a skeleton outline on my website … and I’ll be updating the details soon!

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to or experiencing while in New Orleans?
I just found out that I have a mini-float at the Mardi Gras parade! That is especially cool for me as my grandmother was from New Orleans and my mom actually rode on a Mardi Gras float when she was in her late teens. So I really can’t wait!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I’ll be the girl who tried desperately to get her hair to cooperate despite New Orleans’ insane humidity!

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
