Look Who’s Going to RT: Darynda Jones

Darynda Jones

Darynda JonesCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
Absolutely! My name is Darynda Jones and I write the Charley Davidson series, a paranormal mystery/urban fantasy story about a female private investigator who was born the grim reaper, and like Charley, I live in New Mexico. I’ve been writing for many years and sold my debut book, First Grave on the Right, in 2009. I’ve since sold the Darklight Trilogy, a YA series, as well. May 20th will be the release date of Sixth Grave On the Edge, the sixth installment in the Charley Davidson series. The seventh book, Seventh Grave and No Body, will be released this coming October.

Can you introduce us to the world(s) that you have created?
The Charley Davidson series is about a female PI who was born the grim reaper. She solves mysteries for both the living and the dead. She has a best friend-slash-receptionist who is the coolest sidekick a grim reaper could ever hope for, a dark and mysterious lover who gives her more trouble than he’s probably worth, and an associate in the form of a skip tracer who once tried to have her committed. Along with the rest of her circle—some alive, some not so much—she attracts trouble like a wet floor attracts a lawsuit. But she does it with style.

The YA Darklight Trilogy – Death and the Girl Next DoorDeath, Doom, and Detention, and Death and the Girl He Loves
Ten years ago, Lorelei’s parents disappeared without a trace. Raised by her grandparents and leaning on the support of her best friends, Lorelei is finally beginning to accept the fact that her parents are never coming home. For Lorelei, life goes on.

High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be. Until the day the school’s designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it, standing outside her house in the dark, night after night. Things get even more complicated when a new guy—terrifying, tough, sexy Jared Kovach—comes to school. Cameron and Jared instantly despise each other and Lorelei seems to be the reason for their animosity. What does Jared know about her parents? Why does Cameron tell Jared he can’t have Lorelei? And what will any of them do when Death comes knocking for real?

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I am a Veteran. My advice would be just to do everything you can. Pour over the schedule and hit every panel that interests you. Hunt down your favorite authors and ask for your picture with them. It’s why they are there. For YOU! Go to the parties and dance until midnight. Remember, sleep is overrated. :)

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to or are planning on attending?
Yes I will be on a few panels. I’ll be part of the Scrapbooking Mania, The Great Author Hunt, make sure to find me. The Author/Blogger Partnership, Bigger, Better, Badder, The Tortoise and the Hare: Daily Goals of Bestselling Authors Revealed, and the Ghosts in the Big Easy Trivia.

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to or experiencing while in New Orleans?
My family used to go to New Orleans every summer. We have relatives in the area and I am just really looking forward to seeing it again. But more than that, I am looking forward to meeting readers! I love it! I love interacting with readers and finding out what they love. I also get to meet my amazing assistant face-to-face for the first time ever. I’m so excited. And, of course, I am looking forward to meeting almost 20 of my street team members, The Grimlets. Squee! I cannot wait!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Short red hair and a, erm, voluptuous figure. :) Also, I like to smile. I do it a lot. It annoys people.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
