BBAW Contest #3: Dark Lover by JR Ward

It’s day three and I’m throwing up a copy of JR Ward’s first novel in her Brotherhood of the Black Dagger, Dark Lover.

The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed – orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate – Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead…

Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both…

If you want a chance to win this great novel, all you have to do is to answer this question: Death is very much a part of any vampire story, especially for the Brotherhood as they go after the Lessers every night. What are you think will happen after death? Is there a big black void or will we be reincarnated? I bring this question up because it’s been on my mind a lot lately. The idea of dying doesn’t bother me, but what happens afterward does. The idea that all of our senses are gone and we won’t be able to feel or think in the blackness. That everything will be forgotten. That frightens me. So I’m curious to hear what others think. Remember, in order to enter, you have to leave a comment.

If you want more chances to win, post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.

For one more chance to win, introduce someone new to my site. Get them to leave a comment any where on the site and make sure they say you sent them and you’ll get another chance to win.

I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer.  All entries must be in by 8:00 am EST time on Sept 18th.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I believe that we are all part of a greater whole – the Universe. When we die our energy is added back into the whole and used to create new life. I believe that for a while after we die, we can sometimes come back and watch over those we love, but that eventally we all move on and help to re-create new life.

    Thanks!

I believe that humanity is just one of the “energies” of the world, and we are recycled back into it, whether we resume our lives as other humans in the future or as other beings, I cannot say. I’d like to think we have more than one chance to get our human lives right, but I won’t know about that.

  3. I am a Christian, so you probably know what I believe about the afterlife based on that. Still, the idea of death scares me as well. Great question, and I think it will be interesting to see what other people have to say.

Oh, and Serena from Savvy Verse & Wit introduced me to your site!

  4. I don’t have an answer for you. I go back and forth all the time between there being a big nothing and some place where our spirits live on in peace and harmony to guide loved ones still living.

  5. I’m still working on my whole theory of ‘life after death’ but I do definitely think something happens :)

and I’d adore winning this-I had a copy but my puppy apparently liked the shiny cover because she ate it (well the cover and the spine and several of the back pages at least…)

  6. I always think that dying will be like finding out we were part of a big puppet show. I don’t mean that somebody else was pulling the strings, but like a hand puppet, where the puppet is just the hand acting and talking, and behind the curtain sits the rest of the human being. I think when we die we find out that living was just part of the picture, and behind the curtain we are all more alike than we thought.

  7. I think that life is a journey and that this journey continues after death. We have so much to learn and we live for such a short time, which is why I think we continue on in someway after death.

  8. I guess I believe in reincarnation because whenever someone dies I somehow convince myself that they are just somewhere else in the world and I can’t see them but they’re happy. Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense!

  9. I’ve got mixed feelings on this one but I do have a tendency to lean towards reincarnation. I think that there is an afterlife of some sort and I guess we’ll see when we get there.

  10. I’m really hoping for reincarnation, but it would be nice if we were allowed to keep you previous lives memories….think of the stuff we would know not to do!

  11. I think that we are recycled sort of, and we go on to live another life as a different person. At least I hope something like that happens. It’s so morbid to think we die, and that’s it we are no more.

  12. I believe I’m going to heaven so I don’t envision reincarnation or a black void. The act of death scares me but not the after. Thanks for the giveaway!
