Paula AltenburgI am excited to welcome author Paula Altenburg, who is celebrating the fact that The Demon Lord is currently on sale for $.99 along with Tricia Skinner’s Angel Kin.

The Demon Lord has conquered the mortal world and sampled its pleasures. Now all he needs is to conquer the goddess who is meant to complete him. She, however, has other plans.

Allia is sent by her goddess sisters to win the heart of the Demon Lord and make him her slave. But Allia soon discovers that the Demon Lord’s heart is not easily given, and that in order to win it, she must sacrifice her own.

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away a $25 Amazon Gift card from Tricia Skinner and an awesome prize from Paula Altenburg.

I Need to Get a Life

As a writer, I’ve been spending too much time inside my head.

On the surface, that doesn’t seem like such a bad problem for a writer to have. My head, however, has been full of angsty demons for months. They won’t leave me alone. And they have issues.

It’s a weird way to live.

Now that I’m nearing the end of my Demon Outlaws trilogy, and summer’s approaching, brain cells have been freeing up. They’re begging to be used for other, equally useful things. Since I need to get a life, I’ve made a list to help fill in the gaps:

  1. Learn Dutch
I bought myself Dutch for Dummies and a Dutch grammar book. I’m married to a Foreign Guy. I’m all set. It would help if he didn’t crack up laughing whenever I try out my pronunciation. (“I swear, Sweetie. I’m laughing with you, not at you,” sez the guy who speaks four languages.) To be fair, I make fun of his English. Which, btw, sounds adorable.
  2. Listen to more music
As my kids point out, I never get the words right. Perhaps it’s time to make an effort to learn them. Either that, or stop singing songs I don’t know at the grocery store.
  3. Brush up on my knowledge of aliens and intergalactic space travel
My next book is a cowboys and aliens superhero fantasy. (It works. Trust me.) I need to give the aliens superior technology. I’ll be checking out the Discovery Channel for the facts.
  4. Figure out Pinterest
That’s all I’ve got on this one. I really don’t care about Pinterest, but I’m being spammed by my account, so perhaps the picture universe is trying to get my attention.
  5. Practice my social skills on real people
These particular skills disappear pretty fast when you spend all your time with demons, aliens and make-believe cowboys.
  6. Take cooking lessons
The Foreign Guy suggested we should do something together. I voted for hang gliding, but then he specified it had to be useful. At this point in our lives you’d think cooking lessons would be unnecessary. Turns out the old saying, “Use it or lose it,” holds true. On several levels, in fact, because I’ll be danged if I can remember where the pie plates disappeared to. I haven’t seen them in fifteen years. The lard, however, remains right where I left it.
  7. Run a half marathon distance
This is actually a serious goal of mine. I’ve been running for probably thirteen years now, but the last two years, I’ve been getting more and more out of the habit because of deadlines and life in general. It’s the one form of exercise I truly love and I don’t want to give it up. I’m not interested in running a race because this has always been a fun activity for me, not a competition, but I would like to run a half marathon distance. This year I’m planning to train.

Writing the Demon Outlaws series has been a lot of fun. I’m going to miss my demons. I love those guys. But will I get those half marathon miles in?

I’ll be writing more fantasy. Thanks for having me here today!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I am determined to get a tan this summer. Usually I’m working so much that I don’t get outside and I look like Casper. I want to be a little more free and outdoorsy this summer!
