The heroine of Queen of Wands is a character who made an appearance in the first book of the Sanctify series. Boone’s little sister, Jenny O’Keirna. She’s the impulsive wild child who’s as deadly as she is mouthy. On the surface, what you see is what you get with her, but as often happens, that’s not really the case.
So here are three things you didn’t know about Jenny.
She really, really wants to be taken seriously.
You wouldn’t think it from the way she acts and speaks, but Jenny is desperate to prove herself to her brother and the people around her. She’s always been the wild child, but now that she’s trying to take on more responsibility, everyone is digging in their heels. This is why the mission that takes place in QUEEN OF WANDS is so vital—it’s her first chance to prove she’s trustworthy of holding responsibility without a babysitter looking over her shoulder. She’d determined not to screw it up—even if the universe seems to be conspiring against her.
She loved her father.
Anyone who’s read Queen of Wands knows that he was a terrible person at best and a sadist at worst, but to Jenny he was dad. Rationally, she knows he was dangerous and that he hurt her brothers both in horrific ways, but that doesn’t completely erase the fact that he was such an instrumental person in her early years. He’s the one who taught her to fight and was instrumental in creating her take-no-prisoners attitude. So, even though she knows that it’s a blessing that he’s dead and gone, there’s a part of her that wishes it didn’t have to be that way.
She’s terrified of being caged.
Jenny is happiest with a ship at her command and a universe full of possibilities laid out before her. She never wanted to be linked to a throne and trapped dirtside for huge lengths of time. When she and her brother ran their smuggling business, she was happiest. But now that he’s taken the throne, she’s forced to face the fact that she’s heir until his children come of age—and everything that entails. Similarly, she sees relationships as things that come with strings attached and avoids them like a plague.
That’s Jenny O’Keirna in a nutshell. She loves deeply but rarely lets people close enough to know all the aspects of her personality—which is the exact thing that draws Mac to her. He sees beneath the mask and is intrigued by her mass of contraditions.
