Red Blooded by Amanda Carlson

ACarlson_Red_BloodedEver since I read Full Blooded by Amanda Carlson a couple years ago, I was hooked on the Jessica McClain series. In fact, this series is one of my favorite UF/shifters series and I have been salivating to find out what happens next after the cliff-hanger of an ending in Cold Blooded. So you can imagine I squee’d quite loudly when I got the chance to review Red Blooded

After Jessica’s brother is kidnapped and taken to the Underworld, she will stop at nothing to get him back. But before her grueling training is finished, Jessica’s power mixes unexpectedly with the circle and she’s dropped into the Underworld without protection or her escorts.

My only complaint about Red Blooded is that it took me a few chapters to really remember the entire storyline, as it’d been a *bit* too long since I was able to read Cold Blooded. *sigh* Such is the life of a reader, right?! ;).  Once I got my bearings back about the plot, I could not put Red Blooded down. I was sucked into the awesome world Ms. Carlson created.

The action is near constant with Red Blooded. One minute, you’re reading about some training and the next minute, *poof*, Jessica is sucked down to the Underworld. And once she’s there…it’s all go go GO! I loved every single second of it. The more action, the better.  There was, almost quite literally, running and twists and turns at every page.

Once in the Underworld, Jess has to figure out if she can trust someone she meets. And let’s just say, I was only slightly off on who this person was….and it took Jess a bit too long to figure it out for herself. Is this good or is this bad? Heh, like I’m gonna spill!

And then we have all the luscious sexual tension between Jess and Rourke. Cause, you know, with all that’s going on, there isn’t much time to slow down and get some smexy times. But, I promise, there IS some smexy times. *G*.

If you haven’t read the first three novels in the series, I wouldn’t recommend starting with Red BloodedBut, I do recommend you go pick up the first three, along with Red Blooded, especially if you enjoy some UF/shifters. Carlson’s take is a bit different than most shifters stories and is highly entertaining. If you’ve read the other books, I promise you, you won’t be disappointed with Red BloodedJust beware…the ending! Oh my the ending?! Yes, it’s another cliffhanger. IMHO, the last page or so could have been left off and given me enough of a teaser to be salivating for book 5, but oh well. Now I *really* NEED book 5!
