Escapists Uncensored: Good Omens Radio Play

Escapists UncensoredDid you hear the news!?

Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens is going to be adapted into a radio play by BBC Radio 4.

Words cannot describe how excited I am over this. Good Omens is one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve read Good Omens I don’t know how many times and each time manages to be better than the last.

I’m also really really excited because BBC Radio 4 also turned Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere into a radio play and it was glorious.  You can find it on audible here. It is one of the greatest adaptations of a book I’ve heard (or seen for that matter). It had an all star cast including James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Stewart Head and Natalie Dormer.

There are, of course, a lot of rumors about who will play what character in Good Omens (Neil Gaiman even confirmed that Robin Williams was considered before his tragic death) but as long as the radio play is true to the story I couldn’t care less about who plays what (unless Tom Hiddleston is cast… I’ll freak out over that).

But I’m kind of worried at the moment. I mean, what if the radio adaptation doesn’t live up to the book? What if the play strays from the story? What if it just down right sucks? I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle that.

I’ve heard some pretty horrible adaptations before. But fingers crossed this adaptation will be one of the best. How could it not with Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman and BBC working on it together?

Good Omens radio play will consist of 5 parts with an hour long finale. It will be broadcast in December 2014 but no precise dates have been given. If you’re worried you won’t be able to hear the adaptation don’t be! BBC has an app that will allow you to hear their radio broadcasts. You can get the android version here and the iOS version in the app store. Both are free.

Are you as excited as I am?
Are you worried?
Indifferent?
Have you ever even listened to a Radio Play before?

I teach Special Education and have three demented dogs. Between my students all day and my dogs all night my stress relief is reading. It is the only thing that keeps me from going crazy. Or should I say from going crazier? I read anything but I prefer fantasy, sci-fi and steampunk. I also love urban fantasy and historical romances. If it has dragons and magic, vampires and werewolves, crazy machines and corsets or aliens and spaceships then I’m happy. Mix in a Scotland laird or two every once in a while and I’m ecstatic!
