Escapists Uncensored: The Busy Factor

Escapists Uncensored

Escapists UncensoredHave you ever had one of those times in your life when taking doesn’t fit into your schedule? I think we’ve all been there.

We get into the business of life and our ‘to read’ pile gets bigger and dustier. We look sadly at that pile and wish we could return to its fantastical depths. Then we finally start to resent that pile because it reminds us of the fun we could have if we only had some spare time. Ok, maybe that last one is just me.

I found that when I’m in one of these scheduling shifts my tastes in books change. I don’t want to read the super detailed fantasy novel or the thought provoking science fiction. l just want to read something entertaining and not too immersive. That being said, my aversion to romance increases exponentially. Have you ever tried to find a light sci fi/ fantasy book with zero romance? It’s practically impossible. Maybe that’s what makes me resent my pile. They’re the perfect books if the timing wasn’t so bad.

What about you? Do you wistfully gaze at your book pile? Do your tastes change? Can you recommend a light sci fi/fantasy book with zero romance?

I am a performer by trade and have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. My bookshelves are full of many genres but I have a love of fantasy, SciFi and steampunk which have only spurred my performing dreams to help one of these fabulous worlds come to life. I tend to read books with a lot of edge and grit; if it's got zombies, space battles or fantastical steam inventions, I'm in. When I'm not reading or off making my own adventures, I can be caught watching movies of every era, gaming, and being scandalously political like any good steampunk heroine.
