Exclusive Excerpt: Halloween in Atlantis by Alyssa Day

ADay-Halloween In AtlantisI am excited to welcome author Alyssa Day, who is celebrating the release of her new Warriors of Poseidon novella, Halloween in Atlantis.

Now that Atlantis has finally risen to take its place on the world stage, the Atlantean warriors are having to face some new and interesting dangers — like Halloween parties.

Arrogant warrior Liam doesn’t understand the beautiful, bubbly human whose entire function in life appears to be to plan parties, but he can’t seem to keep away from her, either. Jamie, who considers herself to be completely unflappable–the hallmark of a great event planner–doesn’t understand why the far-too-serious Atlantean manages to get under her skin with every single encounter. Even if he is the sexiest man she has ever seen.

When the two of them are thrown together to solve a mystery surrounding the queen’s missing jewels, sparks fly, secrets are revealed, and Halloween has never been hotter.

This novelette (longer than a short story, shorter than a novella) is perfect for reading on a coffee break – or in between handing out candy to trick-or treaters.

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away a $5 online giftcard and a copy of Alyssa’s Alejandro’s Sorceress.

Thanks for inviting me! Happy Halloween!

The story: Arrogant warrior Liam doesn’t understand why party planner Jamie gets under his skin, and he doesn’t have time to figure it out – there’s a thief in Atlantis, and the queen’s jewels are missing. Can Liam and Jamie figure out this spooky mystery before it ruins Atlantis’s first-ever Halloween party? Can they fight the oh-so-hot attraction between each other, or should they even try?

Atlantis

It was her. Of course it was her. Liam couldn’t believe he hadn’t felt her approach in his nerve endings, or just underneath his skin, where she seemed most often to lodge.

He took a deep breath and turned to face the most annoying, irritating, and, if he were honest with himself—and he always tried to be, in spite of his family—the most intriguing human he’d ever met.

“Why is your fruit glowing?” he demanded, and immediately felt like a fool. Behind him, little Eric snickered.

“It’s a pumpkin,” Jamie said in a long-suffering voice, her fascinating chocolate brown eyes sparkling with what was no doubt amusement at his expense. “A jack-o’-lantern. A simple and traditional Halloween decoration. We carve interesting things into them and then put candles inside, so they glow and look pretty for Halloween parties.”

She was explaining the fruit, and he knew he should listen, but she was just so damn good to look at. Silky dark hair fell in careless waves around her face, the ends tipped with a startling purple. Those amazing eyes, set in an arresting face that was all honey-gold skin and kissable red lips.

Kissable?

He scrubbed a hand over his face. He needed to head for the training grounds and go a few rounds with one of the new Poseidon’s Warriors trainees. An hour or two of hard exertion might clear his brain, which seemed to malfunction whenever he’d been around this woman over the past month she’d been on Atlantis.

He looked at her again. That luscious body with curves a man could hold on to, while he . . .

Maybe he’d need three hours at the training grounds.

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. What other Halloween traditions might seem strange to warriors from under the sea?

It would probably seem strange to them that kids dress up funny (in funny ways) and are allowed to go to people’s houses and get candy.

  2. It might seem strange to an outsider that we have a holiday dedicated to scaring each other…or exposing as much skin as possible.
