BBAW #2 Winners!

First off, I have some great news.  Due to the response to the contest, Anton Strout has graciously offered a signed copy of his novel, Dead to Me.  So, today we have four winners – two will receive copies of Dead to Me – yea!

So the winners are:

  1. Dead to Me by Anton Strout
    • ALEXA who said: I really like Henry from Blood Ties by Tanya Huff.(he’s a vampire-that counts as magical right? and he’s not exactly a detective, but he helps Viki who’s a PI-I hope this counts=D) I love him because he sounds really smooth and charming.
    • JACK who said: Harry Dresden. I love the character because of his snarky sense of humor that he never loses and his ability to keep going no matter what it is he is up against. Even when facing the loss of someone he loves he still manages to kick ass and keep up his attitude. That is what I love most of about Harry Dresden from Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files.
  2. Private Midnight by Kris Saknussemm – SHEERE who said: The ones I remember in this moment Dark Slayer by Christine Feehan; Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith and the Seventh M by Francisaca Solar.
  3. Evil Ways by Justin Gustainis – KIMBERLY BEA who said: My favorite crime solving duo is actually a pair of Egyptologists, Amelia Peabody and her husband Radcliffe Emerson! I love them because their adventures, scribed by Elizabeth Peters, are set in the late 19th/early 20th centuries, and involve Egyptian antiquities.  I love how unconventional, intelligent, and refined Amelia is, and how gruff, fiery, and principled Emerson is–they’re a terrific pair!

Alexa & Jack, the first one who sends me your snail mail info will get the signed copy of Dead to Me.

There’s no way I could post everyone’s responses, but here’s a random selection of what was giving. I tried to make sure each couple was only listed once, but some of these pairings were kind of popular. What do you guys think? Do you agree? Disagree? Who’s missing?

There have been some great crime solving duos out there, who are your favorites and why?

  • Batman and Robing hands down…oh wait…you mean literary crime solving duos right?  I’d have to go with Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.  It doesn’t get any better than those two.
  • Do they have to be from a book?  Because the first duo that came to my mind was Mulder & Scully.  They were awesome together.  They each had very different viewpoints but still supported & backed each other up unconditionally.  Plus, they had great chemistry.  :0)If they do have to be from a book, then I’d pick Stephanie Plum and Lula.  They’re such boneheads.  How they manage to solve any crimes is beyond me but they always make me laugh as they do it.
  • Elliot and Olivia from Law & Order: SVU. I love the way they work together so seamlessly.
  • I guess I would have to stick with the classic Sherlock Holmes and Watson. They are a classical partnership that has stuck around through the ages.
  • I love Kim Harrisons Jenks and Rachel, cause their dialogue is amazing. I love their interaction.

Which magical detective are you just nuts over?  What was it about him that made him a great character?

  • Harper from the Greywalker series is one of my favorite magical detectives/private investigators. I really like how she’ll throw herself into something because she has to know the answer, even if it scares the pants off of her.
  • I think that I have never read about a magical detective, seems interesting though.. But I like Mike St.John of Moonlight series! And he is a vampire!
  • I will say Felix Castor (in the series written by Mike Carey). I know he’s not technically a detective, but it takes a lot of questioning and detective work (at least in Dead Men’s Boots) to get all the answers he needs to do his job. He was stubborn, he dealt with everything that was thrown at him, and he triumphed.. all while still maintaining his.. human-ness, I guess I could say. He was never a god-character.
  • Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison’s Hollows series because she’s so real.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
