For anyone who loves old world sea-crossing romances, then Irish Linen by Candace McCarthy is definitely worth a read.
Meghan McBride owed her life to the elegant stranger who saved her from a brutal attacker on the long voyage from Ireland to America. Now, in need of a man’s protection, she agrees to pose as Lucas Ridgely’s bride-to-be. And though Meghan is expected to marry a man who waits for her in America, it doesn’t take long for her false betrothal to Lucas to seem more real than her true engagement.
The character development between Lucas and Meghan were really done well and while the plot was obvious in some areas, it still kept my attention and made me want to find out what happens. Meghan is a sweet shy girl, but she’s not a fool. She doesn’t let any man get away with anything while she’s around, yet she’s still shy and doesn’t want to impose on others. Lucas is very much the man who gets what he wants, but he does it all with a boyish charm that is kind of refreshing.
Irish Linen is one of those books I wanted to re-read before I wrote it’s review, but even though I’m not going to be able to, I have to say that this was one that I truly enjoyed. As soon as I picked it up, I remembered the story and different events started rolling through my head, making me want to dive right back into the story. That is what makes a novel great to me. Even though I haven’t read Irish Linen in months, if not years, the fact that the story and the characters came back to me effortless made it memorable. This novel is definitely worth any readers time.
I’ll have to tell my mom about this one. She went on and on about something that sounds similar to this. Brenda Joyce has also written something like this. Her books are some of my favorite “historical” romances!
