  3. Dark Time by Dakota Banks – MIRANDA who said: I would never trust one to honor the bargain!  The only way I would take it is if I felt like my life wasn’t worth it any more – suicide by demon trickery.

There’s no way I could post everyone’s responses, but here’s a random selection of what was giving. I tried to make sure each one was only listed once, but some of these were kind of popular. What do you guys think? Do you agree? Disagree? Who’s missing?

You don’t see many PNR/UF in historical settings, but there are some – what are you favorite historical PNR/UF novels? What was your first?

  • Anything by Kelley Armstrong, but especially Bitten. I read it around the time that I read Twilight and was shocked by how much I enjoyed it, because I wasn’t the hugest Twilight fan and thought (stupidly) that I  just wasn’t a PNR lover. WRONG! Bitten got me hooked on the genre, and I’ve read many great books since then.
  • Bloody Good was my favorite, also my first.  It is a great series!
  • I don’t think I have read a PRN/UF historical novel – unless you count Interview with the Vampire.  And if it counts, that would be my first.  My opinion is that it doesn’t count though.  And I’m always up for something new.
  • I haven’t read much Historical romances in general.  I think there have only been a total of 3 that were considered Historical Romance, and one of those was paranormal.  It was Under The Blood Red Moon, and I can’t even remember the authors name to tell you the truth.  It was an interesting read to say that least, a chosen one and yadayada…it had vampires though, which was great!
  • I’ve got to admit, I haven’t read a whole lot of historical PNR, but I did read and enjoy the first two books in Susan Carroll’s Dark Queen series earlier this year.  I liked how she dealt with the magical elements, and I found the romances enjoyable.  I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series soon.

Of all the vampires and demons out there, who does it best?  Not necessarily who is the sexist or the deadliest, but who wears being a vampire or demon well?

  • Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series and Dimitri from Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series
  • Damon from The Vampire Diaries is an awesome vampire. He feeds and kills humans and he owns being a vampire (and he’s sexy too)!
  • I can’t forget Rydstrom Woede in Kresley Cole’s Kiss of a Demon King!
  • I think Marius from Anne Rice’s novels wears being a vampire well
  • Lestat, from Anne Rice’s books, really does it best. He fully embraces his vampire nature and immortality, and he’s not afraid to have fun doing it. At the same time, he’s conflicted in many of the ways you would expect from someone who has been alive for centuries, which makes his character seem like a realistic portrayal of a vampire.I like Eric from Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries series too. He’s cold and manipulative sometimes but he hasn’t lost his love for life. He still has a healthy ego and likes to succeed.

Demons are always trying to make bargains with mortals.  If one came up to you and offered you a trade, would you do it?  What would he have to offer to make you do it?

  • Depending on the trade, I probably would do it. As long as my soul stayed with me and I didn’t have to kill anyone. A large amount of books of my choosing would suffice as far as his offer.
  • He’d pretty much have to back himself into a corner – or I’d work it so that there was a loophole I could back myself out of.  So really, I wouldn’t make a deal with a demon.  Haha.
  • I don’t think I would do it because deals with demons never turn out how you want them too.
  • Alright, everyone else just said “I wouldn’t do it” – what about you guys?

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
