Casually Cursed by Kimberly Frost

KFrost_CasuallyCursed

KFrost_CasuallyCursedI had high hopes for Casually Cursed by Kimberly Frost.  After reading the first few in the series, I was hooked and wanted MORE MORE MORE.  But, it is with a heavy reading heart that I report, Casually Cursed has, for now, ended up on the DNF pile.  I’m not sure if it is me or the story, but I just couldn’t connect and get into the storyline.

Tammy Jo rarely sets a toe outside Texas, but when she learns her mother is in trouble, Tammy is determined to save her—even if it means going to hell and back…

Fresh off her engagement to wizard Bryn Lyons, Tammy Jo is surprised to make another new family connection when she meets the twin sister she never knew she had. After being spirited away to the fae kingdom of Never as an infant, Kismet has finally escaped, and arrived in Duvall, Texas, with some terrible news:  their mother, Marlee, is a prisoner of the Seelie fae.

Crossing the ocean to battle the fae isn’t Tammy Jo’s idea of a romantic getaway, but Bryn refuses to let her go alone—as do her aunt Edie and her ex-husband Zach. Unfortunately, their plot to free Marlee is foiled when they are caught by the fae queen. And the only chance the queen gives them to save Marlee’s life may be an impossible quest…

I think this is a me thing. I am in sort of a slump right now and it’s hard for me to get into damn near anything. Casually Cursed is no exception unfortunately.  Ms. Frost’s writing still rocks, the storyline intrigues me but I just can’t :(.  Part of it could also be a distinct lack of action in the first 1/3 that I was able to actually read. I honestly stopped at where the action has the potential to really start picking up. But, my TBR pile is just too large and looming, so I had to put Casually Cursed down for now.  If the stars align right soon, maybe I’ll come back and finish, but I’m not holding my breath.

I do enjoy this series and if you’ve read the first four, I encourage you to read Casually Cursed. Like I said, the DNF is most likely due to me and my silly slump. If you haven’t read the first four, go and grab them, this is a good UF/PNR blend of a series and Tammie Jo is a pretty neat heroine.  But, Casually Cursed shouldn’t be read out of order.
