Some Random Title Since I Forgot One

Carrie Vaughn has a couple of stories coming out this fall in various anthologies. Actually, I believe she said she has six different ones coming out. The first one is Little Black Dress which appears in Spicy Slipstream Stories (edited by J. Lake and N. Mamatas), which is currently out. The second one is actually another Kitty novella, but this one is told in the third person since it also involves another lone wolf. The story, Il Est Ne, is in the Wolfsbane and Mistletoe anthology being put together by Charlaine Harris and comes out two weeks from today.

There’s a contest for a copy of Katie MacAlister’s Up in Smoke over at Fantasy Scifi Lovin’ Book Reviews.

Interviews:

I came across an article today that is kind of interesting. NK Jemisin discusses her Ten Epic Fantasy Themes We Don’t See Enough. She actually makes a lot of valid points, but I think there are some discrepancies as well. What do you think?

I have nothing against Young Adult fiction. In fact, I enjoy it, especially when I want something simple. However, not everybody is the same as me and I found an article from the Baltimore City Paper that features a couple of really good articles about the subject.

  1. Adrienne Martini reports on the increasingly large crossover between science fiction and young adult genres.
  2. Michael Corbin examines why so few YAF titles adequately address young, urban African-American readers.
  3. Ian Grey reports back from the darkest recesses of the YAF repertoire.
  4. Timothy Kreider examines why books we read as teenagers influence us more than books we read as adults.
  5. Brian Sendelbach offers a few pointers on how not to break into this market.

If you haven’t heard yet (I am a little behind today), Fangs Fur & Fey are having a live on-air talk with their admin team – Melissa Marr, Jeaniene Frost, and Mark Del Franco—as well as NYT bestselling authors Jocelyn Drake, Vicki Pettersson, and Holly Black to talk about faeries, vampires, and all things paranormal with Eos Executive Editor, Diana Gill. This is only the first of many shows with a lot of great authors, so this is definitely something you’ll want to check out.

Ann Aguirre is having a contest for a Jeri Smith-Ready novel. I’ve already read Wicked Game and loved it, so the prize being readers choice of her novels is great for me since I want to get my hands on a copy of her crow series.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
