Vengeance of the Demon by Diana Rowland

DRowland_VengeanceoftheDemonAnd cue the fan girl squealing…I friggin LOVE the Kara Gillian series by Diana Rowland, so when I saw Vengeance of the Demon up on Netgalley, I did a mental happy dance. I devoured Vengeance of the Demon in a few short hours and as always, Rowland leaves me begging for more.

Demon summoner Kara Gillian is on the wrong side of the law, and there’s evidence to prove it. Too bad the courts don’t accept “fighting demonic forces” as justification for murder and mayhem.

Yet Kara has problems that go way beyond her legal woes. When the enemy demonic lords spur their human accomplices into high gear, master summoner Katashi aggressively pursues their goal to establish a permanent gate between Earth and the demon realm. To hell with the consequences for humanity.

The line between ally and enemy blurs as Kara gathers the remnants of her posse to prevent a devastating demonic incursion, but a shattered trust may cost them the war and put Kara behind bars. With treachery rife, and her loved ones in danger, Kara must call upon the essence of who she truly is in order to rally back from a crushing loss.

And if she can’t, the world is going straight to hell.

Before I fangirl, I need to get something off my chest. Each book has a glossary of terms in the back, explaining all the “arcane” and demon terminology. What it lacks bothers me…it doesn’t tell me how to SAY the dang names! Seriously, the arcane and demonological terms can have weird spellings (duh) and I’m only guessing if I’m mentally saying them correctly. It’d be real awesome if we could get some phonetical pronunciations listed in this glossary!

And excuse me for a moment while I fangirl…WHEEEEEEEEE.  OK, that’s done *wink*

I seriously love the Kara Gillian series.  It has all the great characteristics of a great UF (kickass heroine, snarky and broody secondary characters, a villain turned hero…well hero–you get my drift) and Vengeance of the Demon kept building on that. Kara is even more kickass….especially after two certain events/revelations (and if you’ve been reading this series, you’ll want to cry right along with Kara…because HOLY. COW!).

Rowland gives more of that great writing style, even though at times she can get a bit *too* complicated, making it sometimes hard to follow.  However, she gives us a lot of action. You all know I love lots of action in my UFs :). She also gives several big revelations, the impact of some I’m not entirely certain we have any clue what she has in store for Kara, et al, moving forward.  What Vengeance of the Demon did lack was some smexy times.  In past novels, you got some super steamy times between Kara and some demons – don’t expect that in Vengeance of the Demon. This time it’s all about furthering the over-arching plot and some pretty big events. One minor spoiler–Jill has her baby. All I’ll say…is well, you just need to read Vengeance of the Demon to find out about bean.

With all the big revelations, I’m dying for more. Too much happened and Vengeance of the Demon definitely does NOT tie all things up. There are a LOT of loose threads and I have a feeling Rowland will be tugging at each one of those for a while. So, if you’ve been keeping up with the series, you will not be disappointed with Vengeance of the DemonMost likely, you’ll be left flabbergasted and going….”Oh shit, I NEED to know what happens NOW”. If you haven’t read the others in the series, do not start with Vengeance of the Demon, you’ll be lost.

Have I said I need the next one…RIGHT.NOW?!
