Sunday Surprise: RAGT Edition

Sunday Surprise is a feature that showcases three random novels that have either caught our eye, have received for review or is just not getting enough attention. Hopefully we’re able to introduce you to a new fabulous read or even remind you of what you’re missing. So…did we catch your eye?

Welcome to a special RAGT’15 edition of Sunday Surprise. Last month, I and my fellow LE girls – Jackie, Nicole & Sarah – were lucky enough to enjoy spending a fabulous 4 day weekend full of fun & shenanigans together hanging with other fellow book nerds and of course adding to the ever growing TBR pile. I thought it fitting that I share some of the offerings freshly compiled with all of you! First up, I selected the always hilarious Robyn Peterman’s second book in her Shift Happens series Some Were in Time. Robyn is notorious for writing laugh-out-loud witty dialogue for her equally humorously developed characters. She was one of my must stalk see authors at this years convention; if you’ve not read Robyn’s work before, now is the perfect time to start!

Some Were in Time by Robyn Peterman (Shift Happens #2)

RPeterman-Some Were in TimePlanning my own wedding should mean I’m having the time of my life…not defending it every time I turn around. Dragons, feral Wolves and Were Cows…I mean who in the hell knew Were Cows even existed?

All I wanna do is marry Hank, have 2.5 beautiful little Werewolf babies and live happily ever after while having sex on a very regular basis. Oh…and I still want to shoot stuff occasionally.
Apparently no one got the memo.

Instead of complaining about the price of flowers, cakes and the fact that my gay Vampyre BFF, Dwayne insists on wearing a dress at my nuptials, I’m locked and loaded trying to ascertain who wants my ass six feet under. With Hank at my side and some surprising allies at our disposal, we will take on the bad dudes…one bloody clusterhump of a sucktastic battle at a time.

No one ever said the Werewolf life was going to be easy, but this week we couldn’t catch a break if it bit us in the ass…

Next up, comes a new to me highly recommended author Viola Grace (shout out to Dawn Z!) I had the pleasure of having several great conversations with Viola over the weekend and I can’t imagine her writing being any less awesome than she is in person. Due to Viola being a writing machine I am excited to have so many options to choose from. I picked One Part Human to feature as it’s first in a newer series and figured one can’t go wrong with a vampire, shifter & fey ride along (I’ll spare y’all from sharing a cheesy innuendo here ;)

One Part Human by Viola Grace

VGrace-One Part HumanForced into a one-week ride along with agents of the XIA, Benny tries to hide the fact that she isn’t quite human.

Benny has lived her life in the shadows, avoiding the public eye. Her life as a recipe blogger pays the bills and lets her socialise, but she is about to get the assignment of a lifetime.

Her boss orders her into a one-week ride-along with agents of the XIA, the eXtranormal Investigation Agency. It is the anniversary of the agency, and they need to improve their exposure with the general public.

Against her objections, she is paired with a standard set of agents—a vampire, a shifter and a fey. They are willing to work with her, and it is only when she signs the waivers that she learns why. They all read her column.

A week doesn’t seem like much time to learn about an organisation that deals with things most folk don’t enjoy thinking about, but it whips past when the assignments go from casual crime to murders that have one pivot point. Benny.

And lastly more new to me authors Lorie Langdon and Carey Corp with their joint effort of Doon. I was drawn in by the cover and the blurb promises fairy enchantments, kilts and Princes. No need to twist my arm, where do I sign up? Now I’m off to fight the urge to hightail it back to Ohio and see if my nifty Lori Foster room key will still gain me entrance into that very cushy Marriot bed I dubbed fluffy heaven.

Doon by Lorie Langdon and Carey Corp

LLangdon-DoonVeronica doesn’t think she’s going crazy. But why can’t anyone else see the mysterious blond boy who keeps popping up wherever she goes?

When her best friend, Mackenna, invites her to spend the summer in Scotland, Veronica jumps at the opportunity to leave her complicated life behind for a few months. But the Scottish countryside holds other plans. Not only has the imaginary kilted boy followed her to Alloway, she and Mackenna uncover a strange set of rings and a very unnerving letter from Mackenna’s great aunt—and when the girls test the instructions Aunt Gracie left behind, they find themselves transported to a land that defies explanation.

Doon seems like a real-life fairy tale, complete with one prince who has eyes for Mackenna and another who looks suspiciously like the boy from Veronica’s daydreams. But Doon has a dark underbelly as well. The two girls could have everything they’ve longed for… or they could end up breaking an enchantment and find themselves trapped in a world that has become a nightmare.

Happy Reading everyone!
