#CMCon16 Author Reveal: Alethea Kontis

It’s my fourth author reveal for Coastal Magic Convention and today I have a new (to me) fantasy author to introduce you to. With a varied collection behind her, Alethea Kontis has quite the stories readers can easily get lost in.

Althea KontisNew York Times bestselling author Alethea Kontis is a princess, a fairy godmother, and a geek. She’s known for screwing up the alphabet, scolding vampire hunters, and ranting about fairy tales on YouTube.

Her YA fairy tale novel, Enchanted, won the Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Award in 2012 and the Garden State Teen Book Award in 2015. Enchanted was nominated for the Audie Award in 2013, and was selected for World Book Night in 2014. Both Enchanted and its sequel, Hero, were nominated for the Andre Norton Award.

Born in Burlington, Vermont, Alethea currently lives and writes on the Space Coast of Florida. She makes the best baklava you’ve ever tasted and sleeps with a teddy bear named Charlie.

If you’re looking for a new fantasy to disappear into (and really who isn’t?), then make sure you check out Alethea Kontis‘s backlist. Between the ones below, her children’s books The Wonderland Alphabet (with Janet K. Lee) and AlphaOops!: The Day Z Went First (with Bob Kolar), and the many poetry, short stories, and essays she has contributed to anthologies and magazines, there’s plenty to choose from. Keep on the lookout for Diary of a Mad Scientist Garden Gnome, which re-releases in July.

AKontis-TrixterAlethea Kontis is just one of the many authors who will be at Coastal Magic next February (if you missed the other reveals, click here). If you’re going to be a beach bum with me (and if you’re not going, you really should), make sure you check out one of Alethea Kontis‘s books.

The Trix Adventures

Trix Woodcutter is the long prophesied Boy Who Talks to Animals. He’s also a foundling prankster scamp who places his family under a sleeping spell so that he can run away from home. Compelled by a vision of his dead birthmother, Trix departs on the eve of a Great Catastrophe, only to find himself caught in the maelstrom. Armed with little more than his wits and the wisdom inherent in all fey-blooded youth, Trix confronts a legendary Animal King, faces off against a ghostly feline, rescues a damsel in distress, and discovers more about himself than he ever wished to know.

And this adventure is only the beginning…

Diary of a Mad Scientist Garden Gnome

AKontis-Diary of a Mad Scientist Garden GnomeIn a world where monsters and fairies roam the backyard, one gnome seeks to save his true love from an experiment gone terribly awry!

You will find within the pages of this book the diary entries of one Dr. Harry Gnome, mad scientist. Here there be sock monkeys! You have been warned!

One crazy spring, NY Times bestselling author Alethea Kontis and Eisner Award winning artist Janet K. Lee created an illustrated twitter serial about Dr. Harry Gnome, a pint-sized mad scientist with the luck of Victor Frankenstein. Each of its 32 pages are chocked full of rabbits, ray guns, zombies, and sock monkeys. Revel in the precision of Kontis’ 140 character installments. Gaze at the very first illustrations Lee ever undertook. Before there were Dapper Men and Fairy Godmothers, there was Harry Gnome.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
