Three’s a Clan by Roxy Mews

The story continues with a bang in, Three’s a Clan, the third book in Roxy Mews’ Hart Clan Hybrids series (hehe!). This installment follows Shelly, the Protector of her vampire Family and sister of Jake (the hero in A Love Worth Biting For), as she fights her attraction to a couple of sexy wolves. These wolves just so happen to be the Alpha and Beta of the local pack. Plenty of sexy times, action, adventure, and intrigue is interspersed with humor for a winning combination.

RMews-ThreesaClanSometimes the only way to hold on is to let it all go.

Finding out she’s a byproduct of her maker’s plan for world domination is a letdown for Shelly Meyers. Now she must figure out where to pin her loyalties. Tradition tells her to follow her leader, but something tells her tradition is overrated. Is it her conscience? Nah. Not that. Not anymore.

Richard Paulson never planned on turning furry, yet here he is, an Alpha in charge of a pack. Even with Doc, his beta, at his back, he seems to keep winding up in another frying pan.

Long ago, Trevor “Doc” Paulson gave the woman he loved to someone who could give her the life she deserved. Now, as he and Richard fight to prevent history repeating, he’s struggling not to act on pure attraction—again. He knows he should be Rick’s voice of reason, but what happens when the three of them get close makes no sense at all.

Together they must decide to let go of the past to forge a new future—and fast. Before a power-hungry vampire takes it all away.

First off, I would recommend reading this series in order. We meet Shelly in the first two books and, like a good fungus, her caustic personality really grows on you. She’s the quintessential badass vampire seemingly bored with the status quo. Of course, Shelly has sort of fallen in with the good guys, but she still has strong ties to the not-so-good machinations of her vampire Family. There’s a constant “can we really trust her” element to the whole adventure. See, the good guys (the Hart Clan and, peripherally, the Paulson Pack) need to take down some badly behaving vampires. They need Shelly’s help to do it, but have to trust that she won’t double cross them. Add in her sexy werewolf love triangle, and there’s heaps of trouble ahead.

Shelly wasn’t necessarily a favorite character in previous books, but she becomes more approachable and likeable (in her own snarky way) with each book. Not only do we get more of what makes Shelly tick, but Three’s a Clan also digs into the past of the Paulson Pack’s Alpha and Beta. If the two wolves can reconcile past with present, they are in for a wild future (in a good way). Fate has intertwined their lives, but it’s now up to them to decide on how they will move forward.

Three’s a Clan wraps up one of the major story arcs of the series but doesn’t fail to deliver so many more possibilities. Shelly’s story focuses more on the vampire Family dynamics, and how all of that is effecting others in the supernatural community. Several big changes create some really interesting plot possibilities for this group. If you’re looking for fun reads filled with humor, snarky dialogue, and supernatural politics, then pick up one of the Hart Clan Hybrids books.

A 30-something mother of a teenage (going on 30) daughter, I read between 4-8 books a week. Between work, chauffeur responsibilities, and reading, I don’t have much free time . However, I do like to knit and crochet in the winter (quality scarves and hats are highly underrated!). My favorite genres are urban fantasy, contemporary romance, and paranormal romance. I tend to binge read when I find a great new series, so I love to discover new-to-me series that already have several books out.
