Exclusive Excerpt: Protecting the Dream by Michelle Sharp

I am excited to welcome author Michelle Sharp, who is celebrating the release of her second Dream Seeker novel, Dream Huntress, with an exclusive excerpt.

MSharp-Protecting the DreamDetective Jordan Delany is back and contemplating her most challenging mission to date—moving in with Tyler McGee.

After receiving commendations for their last successful drug bust, Jordan and Ty are planning a vacation.

Or are they?

Jordan allows Ty to keep their destination a surprise. But instead of whisking her away to a warm Caribbean beach, as her not-so-subtle hints alluded to, he detours to an old estate that he has loved since childhood and asks her to move in with him.

Sparks fly when Jordan is blindsided by Ty’s proposal. He wants to buy the aging horse ranch, start renovations, and begin a life with Jordan. But can Jordan overcome her deepest insecurities and commit to living with Ty? And if so, will she be able to navigate the one other minor hitch: the spirit inside the house who is determined to show Jordan the home’s deadliest secret?

Make sure you stick around to the end. Michelle is offering up a fabulous prize during the Dream Huntress Blitz event. One lucky winner will receive a $50 Gift Card for Amazon or B&N (winner’s choice)!

Exclusive Excerpt: Protecting the Dream by Michelle Sharp

He reached for the lamp next to the bed. When he turned back, he recognized the sweat-dampened hair and strangled moans.
She was caught in a dream.

“It’s okay, you’re okay.” He picked up her hand. “It’s Ty. You’re with me, baby.”

She bolted from the bed. Her sweat-slicked hand slipped from his grip.

Definitely caught in a dream. A bad one.

He eased from the bed, moved toward her, but kept his movements slow.

Her eyes were open, so maybe she was awake, but she looked odd. Maybe even scared. Her back was pressed against the bedroom wall.

“It was just a dream,” he said softly. “Come on, come back to bed with me.”

She pointed a finger at him. “Stay back. Don’t touch me.”

He stopped. There was no indication she was still asleep. Usually her eyes stayed closed and she was mostly incoherent. Right now she looked wide awake and her words were clear.

He eased about two feet to his right. When her gaze didn’t follow, he decided she was still trapped in some vision. He just didn’t know what to do about it.

Her hands splayed against the wall. “Oh my God,” she cried. “You killed him, didn’t you?”

What the hell was he supposed to say to that? She was looking in his direction now, but he had no idea if she could see or hear him. And her words weren’t making sense.

Everything had been fine when they went to bed. More than fine. They’d fallen asleep tangled around one another, so he knew whatever she was saying wasn’t aimed at him.

Still, what the hell was he supposed to do to bring her out of it? Reason with her? Was it worse to wake her or let her finish out the dream? They really needed a plan for this shit, because he wanted her awake. He wanted that horrified look off her face and her back in bed before she hurt herself.

Something had to give. He moved closer and cupped her shoulders. “Come back to bed, baby. It’s Ty. Come with me. We’re going to lay down; it’ll be okay.”

She slapped against his chest. “Let go, or I swear I’ll kill you. I hate you.”

The shock of her words and the venom in her voice strangled his breath, but he managed to keep hold of her. “Jordan.” He gave her arms a slight shake. “Time to wake up now. Time to come back to me. It’s Ty, baby. You’ve got to—”

She jerked out of his grip, backed into the hallway, and stopped just at the top of the stairs.

“Jordan, God damn it. Stop!” He lunged toward her, barely caught the material of the tee she was wearing as she fell back. He managed to yank her against him, but they both tumbled down the first few stairs before he was able to stop their momentum.

Meet Michelle Sharp!

Award-winning author, Michelle Sharp, has been nominated for a 2014 National Readers Choice Award for Best Romantic Suspense and Best First Book. In addition, her debut novel Dream Huntress has been selected as a finalist in the 2015 Daphne Du Maurier award for Excellence in Mystery and Suspense. Although she has a degree in Journalism from Southern Illinois University, she finds weaving tales of danger, deception, and love much preferable to reporting the cold, hard facts.

As most authors probably are, she is an avid reader. Growing up in St. Louis has made her a die-hard Cardinals fan, and having a child with Down Syndrome has made her passionate about any issue regarding special needs kiddos. She’s also a fairly big sucker when it comes to anything with fur or feathers. Michelle is a proud member of Romance Writers of America and Missouri Romance Writers.
