I know it’s been awhile since I’ve talked about the Outlander series on Starz, but they finally cast two more major characters!
I’ve been wondering who they were going to cast as Brianna and Roger, they become two very centralized and favorite figures as the series continues, and now we know! I have to say, I love the two together. They work just as much as Jamie and Claire do.
Sophie Skelton (Brianna Randall/Fraser)
Brianna is described in the books as a striking, redheaded woman, strong-minded and intelligent beyond her years with traits inherited from both her mother and father. Brianna has a distinctly scholastic mindset and a healthy dose of Fraser stubbornness.

Sadly we won’t be seeing them right away. Of course I can’t find it now, but Moore has been quoted as saying that the pair won’t be seen in the show until the second half of season 2. It doesn’t sound like they will be following the book exactly, but I’m still excited for the casting choices.
Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield)
Roger Wakefield is described by the network as “the grown up version of Reverend Wakefield’s adorable adopted son. After his parents died in World War II, Roger was raised by the Reverend (with help from his housekeeper, Mrs. Graham) and is a proud Scot through and through. Now a professor at Oxford, Roger has a keen interest in history, and all the secrets and insight it presents.”

And speaking of casting choices, since I haven’t been as on the ball with it as I was when they first announced the series, they’ve made a few other fabulous choices. I love that they haven’t been going with a who’s-who, let’s add a few big names, but with actors who are up and coming and have the creds to back up their talent.
Some of the additions we have seen, unless you don’t have Starz (which I don’t) so you may have not. The Duke of Sandringham is being played by Simon Callow and his makeup looks fabulous. I mean, some how they picked someone who has been able to personify the man I’ve always imagined the Duke to me.
Another pairing are Jamie’s sister, Jenny Fraser (Laura Donnelly), and his best boyhood friend, Ian Murray (Steven Cree).
Season two doesn’t start until April, but we’re already beginning to see images. Two characters, who become confidantes of Claire’s during her time in France, are Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne) and Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day). Another central character is the Bonnie Prince Charlie (Andrew Gower), the reason Claire and Jamie travel to France and the madman behind what is coming.
A few other additions we haven’t seen in the wild yet are Alexander Randall (Laurence Dobiesz), Black Jack’s younger brother, is another pivotal character in Dragonfly in Amber; Jared Fraser (Robert Cavanah), Jamie’s cousin who offers his home (and work) to our weary travelers as they work their magic in Paris; Master Raymond (Dominique Piñon), the man who Claire receives some interesting healing lessons; Monsieur Joseph Duverney (Marc Duret), France’s Minister of Finance; and the cutest cast member, in my opinion of course, is Bouton, Mother Hildegard’s dog that runs a Parisian hospital for the less fortunate.
Sadly we got rid of cable (and Starz) during the break last season, so I’m not caught up yet; but I can’t wait for season 2. I’m just waiting for the second half to appear in Google Play (I already have my hands on Volume One).
