Hex in High Heels by L. Wisdom

The fourth novel in Linda Wisdom’s Hex series, Hex in High Heels is a fabulous read and totally captured me from beginning to end.

In this sexy, funny paranormal romance by bestselling author Linda Wisdom, it’s all beautiful witch Blair Fitzpatrick can do to keep a lid on her talent for revenge spells, but things are about to get a lot more complicated…

Blair loves running her vintage shop and hanging out with witchy friends Stasi and Jazz. She’s forever had a crush on hunky carpenter Jake Harrison, whose Were nature (he’s a Border collie) makes him loyal, lovable, and fierce when need be. Just as sparks are beginning to fly, Blair is served with a big surprise when Jake’s mother shows up along with his pack leader, who threatens to make Jake heel! When the alpha does the unthinkable, Blair is pushed over the edge. No one messes with her boyfriend-to-be, even if he does shed on the furniture!

We saw Blair and Jake run around each other in Wicked By Any Other Name, but we get to watch them dance around each other and tick each other off.  Jake has a ton of reasons why he is avoiding getting into a relationship with Blair, but she’s finally putting her foot down and grabbing him by the tail (almost literally).  Now that she knows he’s the collie that keeps showing up to sleep on her bed, she knows Jake is interested and doesn’t understand what is going on.  Of course, everything starts to make sense with the introduction of the werewolves.

We’ve seen our favorite witches dealing with the Fae and vampires, but now we’re introduced to the wolves of Wisdom’s world and it’s quite an interesting one.  The idea behind Jake’s birth is one I haven’t seen before and I like the twist it gives to the were culture.  However, this does make me wonder if we’ll get more of the were pack in future novels.  I know that the next novel is suppose to surround Maggie, who you’ll see in Hex in High Heels, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jake’s pack shows up since I can’t see them being happy with the ending they receive.

Which leads me to the plot.  It was good and there were a bunch of great moments where the witches really stick it to the wolves (and vice versa) that were, not only hilarious, but great in their execution.  This wasn’t a kicking, screaming, punching fight like we had in Wicked By Any Other Name, but very much more of the petty bickering.  The Pack wanted Moonstone Lake and Blair and Stasi had no intention of giving it up.  While the pack Alpha preferred to be able to buy it from them, he had no probably causing them all sorts of grief in an effort to convince them.  Some of the tactic both sides used were simply marvelous.  The one scene that continually comes to mind involves Horace and I was busting up laughing as I was reading what they were doing.  I’m not going to say any more.

Overall, Hex in High Heels is another great addition to the Hex series and if you’re looking for something light and fun to read (as opposed to dark and intense), then you really should pick up this book – and the series if you haven’t yet.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Hi, I reviewed this back in October and I really enjoyed it too! It was the first book I read by Linda and I wasn’t disappointed. I have the other three books to read and having read Hex in High Heels I’m really looking forward to reading them. Great review! :)
