Check out the fabulous cover for Gail Carriger’s second Parasol Protectorate novel, Changeless. The first novel, Soulless, has been getting rave reviews and I can’t wait to get my hands on this new series. Changeless comes out March 30, 2010. Babbling About Books has the synopsis, a great review of Soulless, and had a chance to talk with Gail about her new series. In addition to the Changeless cover, Angieville also has a couple of other covers that look really intriguing.

The Bookworms Carnival is doing a month long theme of Urban Fantasy & Gothic Literature to celebrate the upcoming ghoulish holiday. Stacy at Book Thirty and Literary Escapism are going to be your hosts and we’ll be looking for reviews of great Urban Fantasy & Gothic Literature. Stacy is accepting review submissions for novels published prior to 2000 until October 6th. I’ll be accepting reviews for novels published after 2000 until October 23rd. For all the submission details, click here. If you haven’t joined a BWC yet, why not start now? This is a great way to drive traffic to your site and find some great reading recommendations!

Are you looking for a calendar for next year yet? Why not check out the calendar by Tony Mauro, the artist behind Yasmine Galenorn’s Sister of the Moon covers? I’m always on the lookout for some great UF/Fantasy calendars (in any format) and this is probably one of the better ones I’ve seen.

SciFiGuy found the new cover for Alexandra Ivy’s sixth Guardians of Eternity novel, Beyond the Darkness, which releases April 6, 2010. I like the cover, but I do have to ask, Are those wolverine’s claws? The fifth novel, Darkness Unleashed, comes out in November.

The FTC has published it’s revised guidelines governing endorsements and testimonials, and while I wouldn’t normally pay too much attention to it, this edition has a few words on word-of-mouth advertisements which include blogs. Basically, I need to disclose how I get the books I receive because I am obviously making a ton of money writing my simple reviews based on my opinions and no one elses. The Book Smugglers and Babbling About Books have already weighed in with their responses, but I’m going to reiterate something that is in my submission guidelines that seem to toe the blogger line: I will be honest with my feelings. If the book sucks, I’m going to tell you that, but I’ll try and do it tactfully. So yes, I do get some of my books from publishers, authors and publicists, but that doesn’t influence my reviews. Now that is all I’m going to say on this matter.

Publishing Trends has a new article on the rise of book blogging.

Penguin Classics on Air has a new segment called The Enduring Appeal of Vampires in Literature posted, where they talk to Twilight expert Donna Freitas about the appeal of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire series and Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt, authors of Dracula: The Un-Dead, who talk about Bram Stoker’s masterpiece.

Subterranean Press has posted 30 new Ebay auctions, where they offer up some older and newer titles, plus some that have never been offered before. The best part, all of them are 50% off (at least they started that way. They have some fabulous authors in the lineup – Kage Baker, Brian Lumley, China Mieville, Greg Egan – so if you want your chance, head over. When the 25 are gone, they are gone.

Contest Alert: Jocelynn Drake is giving away a copy of Jenna Blake’s The Devil Inside. Contest ends October 10th.

The first novel in Shiloh Walker’s Grimm Circle series, Candy Houses, was released today. I’ve been hearing her talk about it, but don’t ask me why, this is the first time I’ve seen the blurb for it.  I love reading fiary tales that have been twisted into new stories, so I will definitely be keeping a lookout for the Kindle version.

So you think you know fairy tales? Guess again.

Greta didn’t get her happy ending her first time around. And now that she’s a Grimm—special kind of guardian angel and official ass-kicker in the paranormal world—romance is hard to find. Besides, there’s only ever been one man who made her heart race, and the fact that he did scared her right out of his arms. Now Rip is back. And just in time too, because Greta needs his help.

On a mission he knows is going to test all of his strengths and skills, the last person Rip expected to see is the one woman who broke his heart. Working together seems to be their only hope. But, when faced with a danger neither of them anticipated, the question is, how will they face the danger to their hearts—assuming they survive, of course.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
