Poison Study by M. Snyder

I’m having trouble writing this review. I don’t think I’ve ever had this many problems and it’s driving me crazy. I found Poison Study while wandering the book aisle at Meijers and somehow it snagged my attention. It ended up being a really great find. It’s a fantasy novel that really kept the story interesting and there were even a few plot twists I never saw coming. Snyder draws you into her world with vivid descriptions and characters that are hard to dislike. I was intrigued throughout the entire story, waiting to see how the problems were resolved and what new ones popped up. I’m going to get the second novel, Magic Study, tomorrow even though it isn’t on my TBR list. It’s definitely worth the deviation.

Synopsis
About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She’ll eat the best meals, have a room in the palace – and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.

And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly’s Dust–and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.

As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can’t control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren’t so clear…

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
