As one of the #CMCon17 featured bloggers, I get to have a little fun with a few of the fabulous authors who will be hitting the beach for Coastal Magic 2017 by showcasing their many stories. We had so much fun with last year’s At the Beach feature, that we’re doing it again.
Today Kait Ballenger is taking us to the beach with Lee Schulz from a new series, Detroit One, that will be release in 2017.
10 Reasons You Won’t Find Lee Schulz at the Beach
When Jackie asked me to invite one of my characters to the beach, I knew you all needed to meet one of the newest additions to my ever-growing cast of characters, Lee Schulz. Lee is the hero of the first book in my brand new forthcoming romantic suspense series, Detroit One. This six-foot-three muscled tank of a man is a decorated Marine veteran, and an ex-cop turned fed who made his career working deep undercover to bust human trafficking rings. Nowadays, he’s working as the Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit F.B.I Field Office. Since I know Lee’s really really busy, I sent him an email with the invite. Not to mention, things have been a little rocky between me and Lee after everything that happened in his book.
About an hour later, I received a call from what appeared to be an anonymous burner cell to my phone….
KB: Lee, is that you?
Lee: Your pretty damn lucky I even bothered to call.
KB: You can’t still be mad…
Lee: You bet your sweet ass I am.
KB: Lee, it’s nothing personal. I had to…
Lee: Look, I’ve gotta make this quick, because I don’t have time for this.
KB: You could make time.
Lee: For you?
KB: Yeah, okay…we both know that isn’t happening. Not after the book…
Shuffling noises sound as if someone is moving to hang up the phone.
KB: Lee! Lee! Please! Please just give me a couple reasons why you’re not going to come to the beach with me, okay?
Lee: Aside from the fact that you made my life a living hell?
KB: Yes, aside from that. Do it for the readers. Maybe ten?
A grumble sounds from the other end of the line.
Lee: 1. You wrote me as working 60 hour weeks, what the hell do you expect?
- I got enough sand to last me a lifetime in Afghanistan. That shit gets everywhere.
- I’m recovering from a gun shot wound by an escaped convict after you sent him after me. So fuck you.
- Dan’s already got enough shit on his plate running the field office in my absence.
- You got Jesse shot, too. He may be a little shit, but I didn’t ask you to put a fucking bullet in his shoulder. Kelsey’s gunning for you now too FYI. Your face may be F.U.B.A.R by the time she’s finished.
- I’m already using my PTO hours once I’m off medical.
That’s all your getting.
The shuffling sounds again as he moves to hang up the phone…
KB: Wait! Lee! You have to give ten! And what are you using your PTO hours for?
Lee: 7. No.
- Just no.
KB: Lee, please! For the readers! Just tell me what you’re using your PTO hours for…
Lee: 10. The next time I go to the beach with a woman by my side, I’m taking Heather with me. I hear she’s never been.
The phone line goes dead and the screech of a dial tone rings in my ear. I sit back at my desk and smile.
It’s always the gun shot wounds and murderous villains they remember. Somehow they always forget to thank me for the making them fall in love part.
Meet Kait Ballenger!
Kait Ballenger is a full-time romance author, wife, a former professional bellydancer, and soon-to-be-professor. She is the multi-published author of the Execution Underground paranormal romance series about an international network of supernatural hunters who fight to protect humanity.
When Kait’s not preoccupied with paranormal creepy-crawlies, she can be found spending time with her family or with her nose buried in a book. She lives in Florida with her husband, their doggie-daughter Sookie (yes, like the heroine in Charlainne Harris’ books), and two mischievous cats Elliot and Olivia (yes, like the Law and Order characters), near the love and care of her supportive family. Kait believes anything is possible with hard work and dedication. One day, she will be a bestseller and have people name their pets after her characters too.
