ba-tortugaAs one of the #CMCon17 featured bloggers, I get to have a little fun with a few of the fabulous authors who will be hitting the beach for Coastal Magic 2017 by showcasing their many stories. We had so much fun with last year’s At the Beach feature, that we’re doing it again.

Today BA Tortuga is taking us to the beach with Coke and Dillon from the fourth Roughstock novel, Coke’s Clown. The latest book, Pulled from All Sides, just came out; so if At the Beach with Coke and Dillon gets your interest, make sure you check out the first book, Blind Ride.

Goin’ Fishin

batortuga-cokes-clown“You know when Tracy asked you to go fishing?”

Coke looked over at his own personal clown with a grin. He’d been waiting for this question since they’d gotten to the water. “I do.”

“There’s no boat, Coke.”

“There isn’t.” He stretched out on his lounge chair, the sun baking him. The sound of water lapping at the shore of the lake made him almost wish they’d gone to Corpus, but Colorado had mountains and no humidity.

“There’s no bait.”

“I do believe you’re right, Dillon.”

Nate was right there beside him, fighting his chuckles with all he was and Tracy was sat down next to Nattie, searching through her stash box. They’d used fishing as their code word for years.

Years.

Sometimes a man needed to get away from all the crowds, get into the sun and get a little herbal relaxation. Especially a man who fought bulls for a living. Hell, here in the Rockies, it was legal for fuck’s sake.

“No waders, no rubber boots.” Dillon was laughing, now, the little shit.

His lover wasn’t stupid, was he? Not a bit. He started figuring shit out. Especially once the rolling papers came out. Someone had caught on and was happy as a pig in shit.

Tracy offered her husband the first hit, then…

“There’s not a single rod, babe. Not a reel.”

“One of the things I adore about you, Dillon, is how observant you are.” Coke grinned over at Dillon, who was wiggling like he was about to start dancing. Ah, dancing clown. One of his favorite things. Coke took a long draw, grateful this was legal where they were. Now, they were outside on the deck, but they’d rented cabin that allowed this kind of recreation.

“Mmmhmm. You’re just lucky we don’t have testing.”

“Lucky, hell,” Nate said. “We threatened to walk out if Ace made it part of the job. Between the pain meds we’re all on and the herbal, uh, supplements, we’d all be out of a job anyway.”

“Oh.” Dillon tilted his head, clearly thinking about that a moment. “Can I have a shotgun?”

“Weren’t you an accountant?” Tracy asked Dillon. “What do you know about shotguns?”

“Hey, I went to college. I also needed some help unwinding after tax season ended. Did you know that a hundred bucks will buy you a whole trash bag of green in Belize?”

He shared a long, knowing look with Nate, then he exhaled. “Someone might have mentioned. Come here, cowboy.”

He took a long, lazy drag as Dillon draped himself over Coke’s hips. He held it until Dillon came close, then he brought their lips together, feeding Dillon the hit.

Sweet.

Dillon’s eyes were so pretty, so bright this close and he hummed.

“Good stuff, y’all.”

“It is.” He handed the spliff back to Nate, holding Dillon as he floated, the constant ache in his back easing.

He was on the water with his lover, his best friends, and good green.
Not a bad way to spend a weekend. Not at all.

Meet BA Tortuga!

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds and her beloved wife, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
