Tempest Gods

Nicole Peeler has a cover for her second Jane True novel, Tracking the Tempest, which was posted by both Orbit and Nicole today.  Tracking the Tempest will be released early next year.

Interviews:

Great news for Jenna Black fans.  She finally has a release date for her first YA novel, Glimmerglass.  We can expect to see it sometime August 2010, but we’re also told that isn’t a totally solid date yet.  Either way, it’s something we can look forward to.

For those who joined me in the New Authors Challenge this year, I’ve posted the page for next years challenge so people can start signing up and doing their planning.  I can’t believe people are already thinking of 2010 reading challenges.

Cadogen House is live!  Over the weekend, Chloe Neill unveiled the newest tourist attraction for Chicago – Cadogen House, the resident of our favorite vampire master, Ethan Sullivan.

SciFiGuy has the cover for Shannon Butcher’s Running Scared (May 2010) and the cover for Gena Showalter’s Heart of Darkness anthology (January 1, 2010) which also features Maggie Shayne and Susan Krinard.

Who is the creator of Horror? I’ve heard Mary Shelley is with Frankenstein (1816) and Edgar Allen Poe with his writings (1830s). Who do you think?

Speaking of woman writers, RT Book Reviews is asking Do Woman Write Horror or Paranormal?  I guess there was a Guardian article that suggested that woman are more prone to write paranormal romance rather than straight horror.  I’m not sure I agree with that, but I do like RT’s response to it.

I am liking this new cover for John Scalzi’s dark fantasy novella, The God Engines.  With this being set to be re-released, Subterranean Press decided that they wanted a new cover and I think they got a great one.  What do you think?

If you’ve been waiting for more of Sunny’s Moere-Demon world, you’ll be waiting a little longer.  In her newsletter this week, she stated that she will be starting a new paranormal series and will be placing Mona Lisa and Lucinda on the back burner for awhile.  We’re hoping she’ll go back to them, but for those who dislike starting series that haven’t ended yet, I would hazard a guess and say you could start this one.

Fifty-Two Stories has posted their latest edition. This time the 41st story is 1647 Ocean Front Walk by Dan Fante.

Make sure you head over and check out SciFiGuy’s Weekend Report.  He has a movie trailer for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus that looks freakin amazing.  Speaking of amazing movies, the hubby took me to see Zombieland, which was brillant, and I saw trailers for two upcoming movies that look just as freaking amazing – The Wolfman and Legion.

Publishers Weekly is reporting that Sourcebooks will be launching a new YA line next spring.  Sourcebooks Fire will start off with seven titles being released next year.  The first four books released will be:

  1. Beautiful Dead Book 1: Jonas by Eden Maquire, first in a bestselling paranormal romance series from the U.K. (March 2010)
  2. Recognized by Adele Griffin and Lisa Brown, a novel based on the true-life story of teenage sisters who invented the séance in 1848 (June 2010)
  3. We Hear the Dead by Dianne K. Salerni, a romantic mystery set against the backdrop of the Civil War (May 2010)
  4. The Turning Book 1: What Curiosity Kills by Helen Ellis, a supernatural thriller set in New York City (May 2010)

Katie MacAlister has also posted the second chapter to her upcoming novel, Steamed.  Katie also talks a little about Steamed, which releases February 2, 2010.

Check out the new cover Death’s Excellent Vacation has.  SciFiGuy has the original cover art, but I have to say I like the change.  There’s just something about Death and his scythe that you don’t see a lot of.  For a genre filled with death, how often to actually see him depicted on any covers?  Can you think of any?  SciFiGuy also has all the contents for the anthology here.

According to Publisher’s Weekly, Neil Gaiman is going to be starting a new Twitter Story that fans will be allowed to contribute to.  Here’s the details:

Starting tomorrow at noon EDT, the author—and well-known Twitter fan (@neilhimself)—will Tweet the first line of a new story, and fans can continue it with their own 140-character contributions. BBC Audiobooks America will then compile the contributions—they expect about 1,000—into a short story that will be recorded by a professional narrator. The audiobook will be available for free download at BBCAudiobooksAmerica.com/trade and at iTunes and other audiobook retailers before the end of the year.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
