Michelle Hauf-Wicked Seduction

Michele HaufI am excited to welcome author Michele Hauf, who is celebrating the release of Wicked Seduction, the fifth novel in Tina Folsom’s Venice Vampyr series.

Venice, Italy – early 1800s

Vampire Marcello Sebastiani has enough on his plate with the city of Venice demanding his birth records to prove ownership of his centuries-old palazzo. The last thing he needs is a headstrong yet delicate Englishwoman bulldozing her way into his life and manipulating his every action. No matter how delectable she may be.

Jane Emery has fled an abusive situation in hopes of pursuing her musical studies, but when she arrives in Italy, she finds that her patron has passed, leaving her desperate and lost. Thankfully, she is able to coerce a handsome yet mysterious stranger into helping her. Only her machinations don’t take into consideration his tantalizing touches that make her forget her plans and dream of a future she shouldn’t.

When Jane’s past catches up to her, Marcello is determined to protect the one thing that has come to mean more to him than his own life. But will he be successful, or will the dark force that seeks Jane have better aim?

Writing In The World Of Venice Vampyr

MHauf-VV05.Wicked SeductionHi! And thanks for having me here at the blog. I’ve been a reader and a writer of paranormal romance for… a while. Should I admit my first vampire romance was published in 1997? Yeah, that was when there were about a dozen vamp romances out a year. Total. Now? There must be hundreds. But we love vampires, and even if their popularity wanes, and we shove them back in the coffin for a while, you can never keep a good vampire down. (Not unless you have a stake.)

So I wanted to tell you a little about my newest novella, Wicked Seduction. It’s actually set in Tina Folsom’s world of Venice Vampyr. So how does that work? And since my book is #5 in the series do you have to read the first four to understand what is going on?

Let’s start with playing in another author’s world. You know, I’m always a little trepid about stepping in to an established world. I’ve written as Alex Archer in the Rogue Angel series, and that was also using a pre-established world. The characters are already there; the writer just gets to move them around on the page in a new adventure. That’s how it was in the Venice Vampyr world. Tina had created a group of vampires in 19th century Venice and each story focused on one of them. So when I stepped in, I got to pick one of those vampires who had been mentioned, but hadn’t been written about thoroughly. I got to create his history. I got to give him his style, looks, and mannerisms. I created everything about him (except the fact that Tina had made him a vampire already). Then I paired him with a heroine of my own creation, and put the two together and watched the sparks fly and the women faint (uh, yeah, the heroine has this thing about fainting). So while I was working with another author’s vision of what a vampire was, the rest of the story was all mine. And it was a great time!

Now, as for it being book #5 in a series, all the stories are written to stand alone. If you read my story, and find you enjoy it and want to read more, you might want to go back to book #1, Venice Vampyr, just because there is a little more world building. But don’t worry, you won’t miss anything if you chose to read the books out of order. Promise!

So if you like fun, flirty, and veeeery sexy historical vampires, I hope you’ll give Wicked Seduction a read. And if you do, drop me an email and let me know what you think of it!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
