At the #CMCon18 Beach: All the Time by BA Tortuga

As one of the #CMCon18 featured bloggers, I get to have a little fun with a few of the fabulous authors who will be hitting the beach for Coastal Magic 2018 by showcasing their many stories. We had so much fun with last year’s At the Beach feature, that we’re doing it again.

Today BA Tortuga is taking us to the beach with Stoney and Ford from the first Leaning N Ranch novel, Commitment Ranch.

All the Time, A Commitment Ranch Ficlet

Ford sat there with his teeth in his mouth.

Christ on a sparkly purple crutch, look at his cowboy.

Christ on a sparkly purple crutch? Really? Obviously he had spent altogether too much time around Texans.

Especially one particular hot-bodied little Texan who was wearing his ring. He turned the ring on his left hand, loving the heaviness there, the weight that reminded him that he was part of something bigger than he’d thought he’d ever be, something amazing.

The ceremony had been fancier than Stoney had wanted, but Ford wanted it to be an event. Sure, it didn’t hurt the ranch’s reputation at all, having a huge affair with photographs in papers from Denver to Santa Fe to Aspen, but that wasn’t all of it, or even most of it.

He wanted everyone to know how important this was to him, how huge it was, how he wasn’t ashamed or hiding or anything but bursting with pride.

They’d fought over it, but not bitterly, and once Stoney had been given free rein over planning the honeymoon, the stubborn cowboy had backed right off.

Ford stretched. He’d admit, he had expected to be in Montana or Wyoming for Frontier Days. Maybe Estes.

Not sitting in an all-inclusive, very private, very clothing-optional resort in Mexico for two weeks. He would never have pegged Stoney as a beach baby.

Stoney looked over from where he was stretched out on a lounge chair, the sun turning his husband’s tan ever darker. “You okay, Ford?”

“Great.”

“Happy?” Stoney turned over, that pretty ass like a promise. Ford’s hands clenched, the urge to touch immediate and near undeniable.

“More than you can imagine.” He said it freely, because Stoney needed to hear it over and over. It was true.

“You can touch, you know. This is our space.”

“How did you arrange this?” He took what was offered, smoothing sun screen over the pale, taut globes of muscle. That muscle flexed for him, Stoney moaning a tiny bit.

“Lots of your money.” Oh, fucker! “Lots and lots.”

He swatted Stoney’s butt, not even hard enough to sting, but enough for Stoney to know he was being teased. “You turd!”

“Your turd.”

“Well, yeah.” Thank God for that. “You want to go for a swim later? The water looks amazing.”

“I do. In the ocean first, then at the swim up bar.” Stoney looked like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth. “I do love me a swim up bar.”

“This isn’t your first one?” Ford was a little shocked. It was his first all inclusive anything..

“Honey, I grew up in Texas. We do spring break. We may have invented swim up bars.”

“Nah, that’s Florida.” He shifted a little closer. “You did good, baby. I’m having a ball.”

Stoney’s thighs parted. “Not yet this afternoon, Ford, but there’s still time.”

Ford’s mouth went dry. “Damn.”

Damn and also, hell yeah. There was still time.

The sun glinted off his ring, catching his eye..

All the time in the world.

Meet BA Tortuga!

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds and her beloved wife, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
