#BlackFriday: Felix by Mario Acevedo

It’s that time…Black Friday is here and we’re discussing the season with Mario Acevedo’s Felix Gomez.

The first and only vampire book to be declassified by the federal government . . .Felix Gomez went to Iraq a soldier. He came back a vampire.

Now he finds himself pulled into a web of intrigue when an old friend prompts him to investigate an outbreak of nymphomania at the secret government facilities in Rocky Flats. He’ll find out the cause of all these horny women or die trying! But first he must contend with shadowy government agents, Eastern European vampire hunters, and women who just want his body . . .

Skewering sexual myths, conspiracy fables, and government bureaucracy, The Nymphos of Rocky Flats reveals the bizarre world of the undead with a humorous slant and a fresh twist.

If Felix gets your interest, make sure you check out the first book in the Felix Gomez series, The Nymphos of Rocky Flats.

Felix

As a vampire, Felix Gomez is not much of a shopper. For him, the Christmas Season is a time for Holiday hook ups.

This year, his planned day to buy presents for his circle of friends gift exchange falls on Pearl Harbor Day. That date alone sets him in a gloomy mood. Since he was a veteran of the Iraq War, remembering the attack that dragged the US into World War Two stokes the lingering heartache from his own military service. He lost good buddies, and he lost his humanity. Literally. He went into combat as a human and came back undead.

So after poking around the stores and finding nothing worth spending his money on, Felix makes his way to the closest watering hole and perches himself on a stool. It’s a newly opened hipster bar, but the service is prompt and the wait staff make for good eye candy. No one notices that he casts no shadow or reflection in the mirror behind the bar. All that matters is that he handed over a Visa card and is keeping his tab open.

At the moment, Felix decides to postpone his shopping excursion to another time. Today he’ll hoist a drink and toast fallen comrades, both the known and the unknown.

Cheers.

Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year.

Meet Mario Acevedo!

Ten years ago, I got “The Call.” That is, my agent called to say that I had been offered a contract for my Felix Gomez series. Five vampire novels, a graphic novel, some short fiction, and numerous ghost-written books later, I’m still here. In the meantime I’ve had some adventures and met a lot of great people, artists and writers, mostly.

My big lesson in this journey? Man, is there a big gulf between my world and reality. And so what? I prefer my delusions. The truth would be an unseemly thing for a professional liar like myself.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Do you have a child who loves the idea of hidden worlds, incredible creatures and astonishing inventions, but they’re not all that impressed with magic? There’s a place for them, and it’s called the University of Doom.

Like Hogwarts, this place is hidden from the world, but everything inside is powered by machinery, not magic. Submarines cruise through the Lake of Terror, avoiding the Kraken and the hybrid shark-grizzlies that were the result of a failed genetics experiment. The dorms for the students are protected by Meka-Men, robots that are both terrifying and kind of stupid, which is why our hero can fool them by pretending he’s a dog.

Speaking of heroes, Alfonso Frankenstein is an unlikely one. He’s a Frankenstein, born to be an evil genius. When his father is kicked out of his professorship at the University of Doom, Alfonso finds himself in a sad suburban bungalow with all his father’s equipment in boxes in the garage. He has to attend Ty Cobb Middle School where the science lab is pathetic and bullies roam the halls. What’s a budding evil genius to do?
