Today marks the first day of my short hiatus (I promise I’m diligently working on the new site design) and my first guest to help me fill the void is Natasha from Wickied Lil Pixie. I’m still new to Wickied Lil Pixie, but she is definitely worth a stop since she found Jeaniene Frost’s new cover before I did last week. So check out what she has to say and then find out about the sweet deal I’m going to give you while I’m gone.
Oh Why Must We Wait So Long?
I will never forget the first paranormal I picked up, one of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books. Of course I wasn’t aware that it was a series & I found it on the sale table, so I picked it up. Only to be oh so annoyed when I realized it was a series & I had a book in the middle! Thus became my addiction to series & my issues with long in-between publishing times.
I quickly fell in love with the paranormal genre, which then led me into Urban Fantasy & then Horror. Within 2 years, I had bought over 300 books. Yikes. I admit it. I am a book addict, a very bad book addict. I always reason with people who see my bookshelves, “It could be worse, I could have spent that money on alcohol or drugs right?” Ha. Or shoes, a woman can never have enough shoes right?
Once I was caught up with all the bigger known writers (MJD, LKH), I moved to the new writers and then it happened…..the long wait time. Ack. Months upon months of waiting to see what happened. Months upon months of wondering, is that character alive? Then of course a new series was started & I had forgotten the plot lines of other series I’d been waiting for.
Take for example, Karen Marie Moning:
- Dreamfever (Book 4) was just released on August 18, 2009
- Faefever (Book 3) September 16, 2008
- Bloodfever (Book 2) October 16, 2007
- Darkfever (Book 1) October 31, 2006
That’s almost a year between every book. I haven’t had time to read Dreamfever yet, but I can tell you I don’t remember a single thing from the previous 2 books. For some reason I always remember the first book I read in a series, but then its all about re-reading my own reviews!
I just finished Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill & Twice Bitten isn’t going to be released until July 2010! Friday Night Bites had such a cliff-hanger ending; I am chomping the bit already, what am I going to do until July? Obviously I’ll have other series to catch up on & new authors to read, but the long waits kill me, especially when it’s a series I really love.
Then there’s “big publishing months”, you know those months where you try to keep up with all the new releases you just NEED to buy? August was like that for me & it seems November will be much of the same. It’s like you can’t read fast enough, you can’t get enough of what you missed in the character over the many months they’ve been “away”.
I really miss the days of finding “new to me series”, like Laurell K Hamilton, with a bazillion books to catch up on. Alas, this is the life of the book addicted!

So what do you guys think? What series out there have you been annoyed with the wait times for? I know I am going to go nuts waiting for the next Cat & Bones novel by Jeaniene Frost. Granted, we will have the Spade and Mencheres books before that, but it’s not the same.

Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer (all in the same post please). The more places you share it, the more entries you get.
Boy do I understand this. I often will wait until I am backed up so I can read two at once. It becomes difficult to jump between stories. Often you read the ones you awaited so fast, you barely have time to get into it again.
I forgot to mention that I made it over to Wicked Pixie site to leave a comment. This is one of those blogs I check every day anyways. Love Chloe Neill

Mine use to be the Anita Blake series. LOL.
I would say now the In Death series. I need my Roarke and Eve fix.
First off, I commented on Chloe Neill’s post at Wicked Lil Pixie’s site:

In response to your question, I have to be honest and admit that I have been reading rather slowly lately, and a lot of the authors I follow have been coming out with books more quickly than I can read them! However, I think it was about a year between books 2 and 3 in Ann Aguirre’s Sirantha Jax series; although I had the lovely Blue Diablo to tide me over, the gap between books was just long enough to make me a little rusty on what had happened. Great excuse for a re-read!

I was annoyed with the wait times for the Harry Potter series when it was still ongoing. Goblet of Fire left me wanting for more and the next book took like forever to come out because Ms Rowling was writing the companion books in the meantime. I think it spoilt the momentum for me.

I’m biting at the bit for the next Fever book! Dreamfever was such a BIG cliffhanger – one of the biggest OMG moments for me in my book reading history.
Any book that I have to wait 6 months or 1 year for the next in the series is too long. I’m like you, my long term memory is fuzzy.
Comment on your post: PC Cast/Kristen Cast & Richelle Mead Banned
I understand you – I have the feeling that there is not one books which isn’t part of a series… so I’ve every month a list with new novels *sigh* but I’m happy that some authors have the possibility to release two books a year like Nalini Singh or Gena Showalter :)
Greetings,
Ina
oh, and I posted a comment here: http://wickedlilpixie.com/2009/10/19/chloe-neill-interview-contest/comment-page-1/#comment-1516
I cannot wait for the next Fever book to come out. Another is the next Darkest Powers book by Kelley Armstrong (I have to wait until May..ugh). It’s frustrating to have to wait so long for a book to come out.
