It’s that time…Black Friday is here and we’re discussing the season with Chris Cannon’s Jaxon and Bryn from her Going Down In Flames series.

Bargain Hunt
“You want to do what?” Jaxon stared at her like she was insane.
“It’s not that difficult of a concept.” Bryn scooted closer to him on the couch. “I want to go shopping in Dragon’s Bluff on Black Friday.”
“And you’re telling me this because…”
She rolled her eyes. “Because everything will be on sale and it will be fun and I want you to go with me.”
“You want me to walk through crowded stores with annoyingly cheerful people while you hunt for discounted Christmas gifts.”
She nodded.
“I believe you’ve forgotten some key facts. One, I’m a Westgate and I don’t enjoy socializing outside of my social circle. Two, since your grandparents took you in the price of an item doesn’t matter. Three, you have a serious misinterpretation of the word fun.”
It wasn’t Jaxon’s fault that he was snotty. It was in his genes. Literally. Blue dragons were the elite clan and the ruling class in dragon society. He’d been taught not to socialize with the masses. While she’d been able to work some of that out of him, she obviously had more to do.
How could she make him understand? “I know that my grandparents have money and I could walk into a store and pay full price.” After years of living on a shoe string budget she was grateful for that fact. “Black Friday is an adventure, it’s the thrill of the hunt and when you find an amazing bargain it’s like you’ve discovered a treasure.”
He reached for her hand. “Is this one of those cases where you’re going to be annoyingly persistent until I finally give in just so you’ll stop badgering me?”
She slid her fingers through his. “You’ve figured out my secret plan.”
“You’re not exactly subtle,” he said. “Fine. I’ll go shopping with you if you promise never to make me eat at that floral nightmare of a tearoom.”
Suzette’s was a flowery tearoom that specialized in terrorizing the male half of the dragon population. Mother’s dragged their sons there from an early age and carried on conversations about dish patterns and wallpaper. Once the males were older they never set foot into the restaurant again and they never discovered the lovely room behind the floral nightmare. The female dragons had a place they could meet their friends without being disturbed. It was ingenious.
“I promise. If you go Black Friday shopping with me, I will never ask you to go to Suzette’s.”
“Then we have a deal.” Jaxon said.
